Is this possible? SS Daytona / WG
Ok so here is my problem. I have a couple of SS Daytona’s, one I use every day.
I really want the WG Daytona because I love the dial however I know that the WG will scratch really badly. So is there any chance I can buy a original WG dial and stick it in my SS Daytona? Or will I have to just buy a new WG Daytona and swap the dials? |

The gold durability issue is not a real-world problem. Yes, soften than SS but not enough under normal wearing conditions in my view. Buy a WG model with the dial you like. May I suggest the white with arabic numerals?

Apparantly, it IS possible. See this pic:
(Pic from an old eBay listing). Doing this modification, though, would make the watch a "Frankenwatch", and RSC would undo the change - at your expense - during service.

But what about the Bezel? They are not the same.
If you have a couple of SS Daytona, when not sell them and get one WG Daytona instead? This way it is more original. And there are jewelers and watchmakers around who can repolish WG if RSC or AD does not want to do it. Take a look at this thread: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=41092 |

my 116520 still has the original bezel, it is the only way you can tell the difference, if worktolivelife does not believe me.
I would welcome meeting any forum member to view my watch and to prove him wrong. My people have seen my watch and have commented. Another point to make is when ever i buy a new rolex I only buy from one dealer and have been buying from this dealer since 1986. Maybe I am a bit more connected with rolex than the norm. i dont have a digital camera at the moment so sorry cannot post pics... |

Guess you can just ring up Bexley RSC [Rolex UK] and ask them to pop a WG daytona dial in your SS Daytona then...no problem

Just to supports Mark's story.
I have seen photos of his Daytona with the W/G black dial. And when we first started to pm each other, he told me the full story of how it all came about. So in this case it appears that Rolex were able to change the dials.
