I wonder if the new Pelagos with its beautiful blue finish and inhouse movement will hurt the value and desirability of the original Pelagos ?

Probably, but there will be plenty of people who prefer the original. The new blue dial looks like it was made out of Legos to me.

I see the mk1 Pelagos as the future classic. A few reasons:-

It's a distinctive, instant classic of a design, it's (probably) one of the last Tudor models that adheres to their historical use of ETA movements, and it was only available for three years, which is a flash in the pan.

The new model, while desirable in its own right for the new movement and the blue colouring, will only ever be a mk2.

I love that blue Pelagos. I'm thinking of picking one up as my daily work beater. The non-in-house movement would have to be DIRT cheap for me to think about picking it up over the newer one. A 70-hour power reserve in-house movement kills it for me.

From the release pics, the new blue Pelagos looks very cool. If comparing black ones, I prefer the old version because of the fewer lines of text on the dial.

For me. Meh. I could care less about the new in-house. In fact I prefer the older ETA model as I'm very comfortable servicing that movement myself me parts are readily available.

I'm thinking about getting a MKI black and trying to find a new blue bezel for it one day. I wonder if that would be possible.

The blue was a smart choice. It allows for a similar smurf look in a much more affordable price range. Nice offering. The pelagos is awesome for someone who enjoys a lighter watch.

I'm sort of on the fence too.

I genrally prefer the original version of whatever- the X-33 Omega for example... Y serial LV sub (I own neither at the moment)

Anyway, can't decide on a (potential) deep discount black or a slick new blue. I'm top of the list for the blue at the AD but until I wear it, I'm holding my decision...

That is my problem with the model in general. I don't like the cut out and find it distracting.

I am waiting for the blue Pelagos available in the local AD; it is equivalent to an affordable Smurf in my mind. I won't take a look at the old Pelagos with the ETA movement.

I imagine down the line we will see ads for the "rare original two line" Pelagos. Some people will prefer that and the ETA movement.

You can also replace the ETA movement by the new in-house one, can't you?

Then you would need the new dial, because the date window location and therefore date wheel size are different. So would be pointless, as you would just end up with a new Pelagos.

Also, I believe the in-house movement may be a slightly different size or dimension as the new Pelagos' require a different case back... which causes the watch to be .1mm thicker.. or 14.1 mm thick.

Imho, values are a crapshoot and desirability is subjective.
I would suggest that both are fine watches, and the choice will likely come down to how much buyers care about in-house vs ETA, and their preference of dial design.
