Why do grandfathers dislike their children?

Ever notice the story is always "a Rolex my grandfather gave me" and almost invariably, the watch's authenticity is easily questioned?

That made me ponder why is it that so many grandfathers seem to dislike their children so, so much as to not give them the Rolex? Seems there is a whole lot of these children being passed up on. Where is Dr. Phil for some much needed therapy when you need him?

Maybe grampa had more than one Rolex and the grandson got one as well or didn't have a son to give to.

It seems that grandparents become enamored with their grand children in a way that those of us that do not have grand children can understand. Their brains almost turn off when it comes to them. Very strange phenomenon. My grand parents were gone before I was old enough to remember so I never saw it first hand but I have seen it around me. The other factor is that their children are older and established. They have a house, car, career and they can easily go get it themselves but a younger grandchild is just starting out in life and they want to give them something special at a special time.

While I'm not a grandparent yet, I'd say that this pretty much sums it up.

Those of us who are grandparents wish we could have skipped a generation, but then it's our children who are raising our grandchildren. We can give them back when they start crying or get ornery.

I have two sons and I gave each their first Rolex. Have two grandsons and I gave them their first watch, a Casio. And they love 'em! When they reach HS I will give them a Seiko 5 (JP) or a Swiss brand watch. When they graduate from college and I'm still around I will offer them a Rolex from my collection.

Great idea. Make them milestones.

Neither of my kids want my collection and my two granddaughters (currently 7 and 3) probably won't either. Not sure who will get them.

I have always thought of you as family. Kinda like the grandfather I never had.
Just sayin'.

I'd be happy to relieve you of that burden, Ed

I wondered how long it would take for the comedians to surface
