I took the family to the beach for a few days this week. The first night, as we strolled the boardwalk eating candy beach goodies, my daughter produced a sizable rock that she had found in the surf. For some reason, she thought it would be fun to tap the rock on the crystal of my Sea-Dweller, and not gently.

My wife saw it and gasped, but I knew the saphire was fine without even looking.

Even thought it survived the rock, sand in the clasp and other light torture, next time I'm wearing a G-shock or Ironman.

I am glad the crystal of your SD survived this. Actually, it could have broken.

Right on way to be family is worth more than a Rolex I would trade all of mine for any one family member. Years ago my daughter broke my crystal on tile. I ssaid so what bought another crystal and took her to Toy R Us.

Exactly. I would rather quietly get the crystal replaced than give my daughter the memory of her father wigging out on her on the boardwalk.

But she has had her "Rocks Hurt Rolexes" warning....

Rocks make Daddy's Rolex cry.

I don't have children for many reasons however if I did I would chairish them many times more than any of my Rolex's or any other material thing.
I would however explain the proper treatment of things that weren't her's.

Glad the crystal survived the ordeal. Make sure you thoroughly rinse your SD. Turn the water on high to let the water pressure flush out the bracelet and any sand from beneath the bezel. Don't worry too much... the SD was made for the ocean.

No worries Ed, Rollies are tougher than most people can imagine; its meant to take the abuse. Just soak the watch for a few, toothbrush it with warm soapy water and you are good to go. Scratches are inevitable.

Reminds me of a time when my son who was 4 at the time... Grabbed my Rolex from the Dinning Table and threw it as far as he could... It landed in the about 10 feet away from him...

And not a scratch on the Rolex... it still kept great time... Must say Rolex really to build tough quality.
