Which Rolex Submariner?

Hi all,

Firstly great site and very informative.

I am on the brink of buying my first Rolex and love the Submariner. However I am unsure what to buy? I have been told to buy a brand new one and others recommend an older, slightly cheaper one as they are all very similar!

Is this true, I appreciate there is many variations of the same model, could anyone offer any sound advice?

Many thanks in advance :-)

Hi.and Welcome.

I have a 2002 SS Sub Date and have just sent it for its fist service that will cost £260,
So that is something to consider when buying pre-owned.
The current price of a new one is around £2900 therefore you would need to get one under £2000 to make it worth it IMO

Regards Mike.

Thanks for the information, it all goes towards hopefully getting it right first time.

Can you get a used Submariner in good condition for around the 2k mark?

Ya know if it's a first purchase, you're better off buying from an AD. Don't risk getting ripped off. Good Luck!

That was aimed at the economy jibe - lol not your comment fear!

I think I will opt for the AD, is there different models in the new Submariner line? Which would be the best one to go for?

SS holds value a little better, that being said....the TT Blue has a pretty substantial fan base.
You can't go wrong with either. My first Rolex was the TT Blue, loved it then & still love it but I do prefer the SS models for daily wear now that I have the option. At the end of the day you really can't go wrong with either. I would visit the AD, try on both and buy the one that smiles at you.

The classic Sub is the 16610.

It's all cool. Don't worry about it.

I have the 16610 Z series. The current M series have the Rolex RRRs around the chapter ring. Some people like to CBR, some don't. There may still be ADs with unsold subdates without the CBR.

The 14060M sub do not have the date feature. The current ones also have the CRB as well as chronometer title. I've seen an older unsold no date sub without the RRR at a local AD. There may still be some out there.

x2 - find a local and respected AD - the Rolex web site will point you in the right direction. You may pay RRP or close to it but you will have a brand new Sub, guaranteed to be genuine, and you will be in seventh heaven.

Good luck!

Probably, most buyers will buy the 16610 SS Sub Date, it is a classic. Then, you will desire a TT Sub, in either blue face or black. It's impossible to own only one !!! Here are my two Sub date watches.

Sweet watches, it does seem rather addictive.

Keep the advice and information coming! I have learnt more in two hours here than I have surfing the net for and asking people for nearly a year!

All appreciated

Welcome to TRF!

I also vote for getting a brand new SS Sub Date from an AD. When it's your first Rolex, you want to get the right thing and full benefit of the warranty.

Best of luck!

I also recommend getting your first one from AD. When you put your name on the warranty card, you will smile ear to ear..... call me shallow, but that's how i felt.
