Daytona.
I was in the same boat and went for the Daytona. Now every time I see a sub/GMT I'm so happy I have a Daytona and would never go back. |

FWIW, I'm enthusiastically looking at the 44mm Seiko Sumo. Stuck on divers I guess |

For me is easy among those 2 since I dislike the thick lugs of the modern Subs: Buy the Daytona!

I love both but the 114060 just about takes it IMO.

Like many others responded.....get both. The perfect 2 watch collection. If you are choosing between the 2 and this will be the only Rolex you own.....that is a tough call.
My vote would be SUB. |

When I can't decide between two watches, I always try to think of the decision as being for my "next watch", instead of a final pick between two watches. This way, my decision is only, "which watch do I want first?" This kind of thinking has always eased the decision for me and helped me be satisfied after pulling the trigger too.

In the end of course the question, as for everyone, is to be answered by your personal taste and which one speaks to you. |

Threads should have some way to distinguish an older thread like this from an active one. I have no idea why someone bumps this up, giving advice to a poster from 2.5 years ago.

My vote - both, of course! I started with a Daytona 2 years ago, then added the Sub in January. I couldn't go for "plain" black for either, though...

I'm gonna say Celini!!! Just kidding... But seeing as you have been about 50 for a few years now, I am really interested in what you DID choose! From every Rolex owner I have ever spoken with, the consenus is always the same: "I wish I would have bought sooner." Best of luck, and I hope you find what you're looking for. Go Sub w/Date or a GMT-II. Unless the notorious "legibility issue" does not phase you... Because I LOVE my Daytona!!! |

Daytona first since it seems to continue to go up year after year. It seems I can always find a preowned sub at a fair price far more readily.

Submariner with date... Daytona will go from the bottom of my list to first when/if Rolex make it with a date.

Love the simple, clean, rugged look. Sub-no-date hands down for me. Legibility in any condition is unmatched.
Daytona's are just way too busy for me, but will certainly not turn one down, given the opportunity. |
