Panerai 217

Hello folks, I`m thinking of getting a 217. I was wandering if the 217 is worth the aftermarket prices of 20-25k. Just wandering. My other choice is a 233.
Thanks

i'd go w/ the 217 as the 233 is still readily available.
get it while you can before it shoots up again

The 217 is a really nice watch, but the current market value is way too much. You are going to pay over $20,000 for a watch with a unitas pocket watch movement? Is the price going to go up? I doubt it, I think we have seen close to the ceiling reached and actually the selling prices for 127 and 217 has gone a bit down over the last month.

Buy the 233 instead, you will not be disapointed. Great watch with a great movement. The 8 day manual wind movement is incredible, plus all the other practical features. Plus the for the difference in price you could travel in Asia for several months, or buy a Luminor Historic model as a back up, or take 1-2 really nice hunting trips, or go trekking in the Himalayan mountains for a month or two, etc... OR just save the extra $7500.

127 would be my choice at that pricepoint, not the 217.Both very exclusive and nice.

233 is very nice too

no way to pay over 20k for 217 or 127.
they are nice with the 47mm case but the 233 is better in almost every way.

i own the 233 and i don't see myself buying either 127 or 217.
233 is the best

Worth really is all relative. I turned them down at 8.5K, bought for more than that, sold it for more than that.

If you are talking horologically? No the bits and pieces of the watch are not north of close to 20K, but to collectors they are and that is what drives the price. It is a very cool watch, I just had other fish to fry and got out while the market was hot.

Best of luck in your decision. FWIW I sold a 233 to originally fund the 217, the 233 is the best everyday Panerai I have owned and there have been close to 20 different models that I have owned.
