Which Blackberry to choose?

Hi All,

I have been offered the option to take up a Pearl 8100 or a Curve 8310 by the office. Did a bit of research, as far as I can tell the 8310 has a better battery life , talk time , GPS, larger screen and keyboard. Other than those features both are exactly the same instrument.

I would like to ask opinions from people on the forum as to which one should I be choosing based on their experiences?

Thank you in advance for your input.

If you want a smaller device, go with the Pearl. A small device is very important to me, so that's why I chose the Pearl. I have had the Pearl since December 2006, love it and had no problems with it. The Curve is a little bit wider and uses a full QWERTY keyboard, where as the Pearl uses the SureType keyboard. Your best bet is to go to a store, handle both devices and then decide.

Dont buy anything yet....wait a month. What network are you on? If its GSM (AT&T/Cingular, Tmobile) then a new blackberry (Bold 9000) is coming out soon.

It will have tri band wifi, built in GPS, 3G, the whole nine yards.

Bold is out according to RIM - a buddy of mine said they consider it released, it's just up to the providers now to get their ducks in a row.

I'm just saying - as far as RIM is concerned, the product is released. RIM is a Canadian company.

I have had my Curve since Oct'07 and LOVE it! I used a Pearl before that for about 5 months and got irritated with the Suretype. After 5 months it still didn't 'learn' many of my words!

I'm on T-Mobile and have heard about the Bold coming out on AT&T....I assume it will make its way to T-Mobile by the end of this year.

Go Curve, (at least until the office will go Bold)

For this type of phone, you'll appreciate the larger screen size and longer battery life of the curve. That Bold looks awesome though sounds like it'll be a lot faster with data than anything before it.

We sent it back to RIM for some re-work so instead of a late June launch as initially planed we are now looking at a late July or early August.

It's a FANTASTIC device.
As somebody that has had every BlackBerry we ever carried, I can't wait for it.
I had a prototype from RIM but I had to send it back.
Time for my 8820 to retire.

I switched to a Curve about 6 months ago because I was sick of my old phone's battery giving out in a day, while my colleagues w/ BB's (doing the same amount of calls & emailing) could go for 3 days w/o a charge. It didn't take me long to realize I'm now a BB man for life. I didn't even know about the Bold until this post, but now I'm thinking of upgrading (although it's going to have to be great for me to abandon the Curve).

If you're like me that only cares about phone & emails, then the Curve is hard to beat (I also use the GPS from time to time...works like a charm). As for internet surfing...it sucks & is slow...but I don't care because I don't use my cell phone for internet & music. I think the new iPhone is cool...but it's got a bunch of feature I just don't care about in a phone. My phone is used for work 90% of the time - what that means is talking & emailing.

Cheers.

2 of my colleagues would beg to differ (and one is a Principle of the firm I work at who demands performance out of his phone at all times because he lives & dies by his calls & emails). After only a week of using the iPhone (the original), they just didn't think it compared to their old BB's & ended up switching back. I guess they hated the typing of long messages via the touch screen and they complained about some of their email accounts taking forever to send/receive new messages...time is $$$ ya know!

The company that I work for just switched to AT&T and we all got BB Curve 8310s. So after using one for a few weeks, I like it. My only complaint is the way the inbox is organized since it throws everything into one location. I know there is software to organize it.

The Bold is great. Best BB I have ever had.
We should put it up for sale shortly.

In the mean time, here are some pics of mine. Sorry for the quality. The iPhone has a serious issue with white balance.

About the same size as the 88xx. I'll take some pics next to one tomorrow.

@SLRdude,
nice PDA you have.

BB Bold 9000 Specs.:

- first BlackBerry smartphone to support tri-band HSDPA high-speed networks around the world
- comes with integrated GPS
- newly designed full-QWERTY(i) keyboard
- Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g) networks
- next-generation 624 MHz mobile processor
- includes 128 MB Flash memory plus 1 GB on-board storage memory
- microSD/SDHC memory card slot
- half-VGA (480×320 resolution) color LCD
- 2 megapixel camera with video recording capability, built-in flash and 5x digital zoom
- Bluetooth® 2.0
- Speaker Independent Voice Recognition (SIVR) for Voice Activated Dialing (VAD)
- target talk time of approximately 5 hours and 13 days standby time

IMHO, it would be best to have a Blackberry Bold or a curve.

I'm impatiently waiting for an HTC Touch Pro to arrive at my door. It has been promised for today and I'm keen to get my hands on it. It's basically a Touch Diamond but with better battery life and a slide out 5 row keyboard.

Hurry up Mr. Postman.
