SUB C or GMT II Ceramic ?

I am looking at buying myself a new watch and for some reason, it is very difficult for me to decide between a Sub C /SS and GMT II Ceramic /SS.

I will love to hear what people have to say about the pros and cons of the two ;)

If you travel and want a comfortable watch, get the lower profile GMT. If you cherish maximum adjustability and ruggedness, get the Sub. You're going to end up with both eventually so just decide what you want first. What other watches do you own?

Do you want a fourth hand? The GMT hand can be "handy" for some, or distracting for others. The Sub has the advantage of the Glidelock clasp, but that means the clasp is longer. No PCLs on the Sub is nice for most people, but the bracelet can be brushed easily on the GMT.

I've been going back and forth for a while, and my wife likes the GMT better, so I'm going with the BLNR, most likely. It'll just make like easier if I go with the one she likes :)

i think it all comes down to preference, you cant go wrong with the two

when i only had my subc hulk, i used to think that the gmt2c was redundant as it looked too similar to the sub

now that i have a blnr i have begun to notice the subtle differences between the two and think that they are different enough that you can have both in a collection

I had the same dilemma two years ago and finally decided on the GMT, mainly because I'm a traveler and not a diver. I appreciated the all brushed bracelet and glidelock clasp on the Sub and almost was convinced to go with it. In the end, I simply had the PCLs on my GMT brushed and have dialed in what for me is a perfect fit on its easylink clasp so all is well. IMO you can't go wrong with either model. It's a tough choice so good luck!

I do not travel that much or dive either. It is true that the solution will be to get both :thumbs: but I cannot afford it. Do you own both ? and if you do which one would you buy first and why ?

I love the GMT complication, and have learnt to love the PCLs (which I find better suited to the GMTc than some other models).

On a purely aesthetic note, the green details on the GMTc LN are beyond superb. IMHO amongst the best of Rolex's efforts with colour....

I did love the Sub C Date, but I think I'll find more use out of the GMT hand - one of my close team members is based out of Japan, so it'll streamline the "is he 13 or 14 hours ahead of me?" game. I'll find use out of it.

Between these two, I would go with the GMT.

In the past, I would have chosen the Sub, but over the past couple of years now, I have come to realize the GMT is a better all around watch. Its waterproof rating is more than enough for most people and it also has the extra GMT function for travel purposes. In my experience, I have found that more people travel to different time zones in the world than dive to 300m.

Both are fantastic references, but the GMT, at least for me is the winner here.

I have both the gmt LN and Sub C LV. The gmt is dressier with the PCLs and has the added benefit of the second time zone. I got my Sub C in December and since then, the GMT has seen very little wrist time. I think SUB C is a great daily wearer, but I also am partial to the fact that its green. The size of the clasp on the Sub C isn't huge. If you have any doubts, i would make sure to try both on and go with your gut, either way, you'll be the proud owner of a new rolex!

I chose the Sub Date, as I really don't have a need for a GMT even though I travel overseas every now and then. You can't go wrong with either choice, but I can highly recommend the glide lock and the brushed finish on the bracelet. I also didn't like the size of the numbers on the bezel of the GMT, they look to big for my taste.

Especially if it's going to be your only Rolex (at least for a while), start with the GMT which is the best all-round watch of the line IMHO.
I have always wanted a sub before trying the ceramic GMT.
I ended up with the GMT which I absolutely love, though I will most probably be adding a Sub at some point.

Whilst the glidelock is superb, this doesnt make the GMT clasp so much worse either. I find it plenty comfortable and the extra adjustment helps significantly with the quick release that gives u that extra room.

I think personally i prefer the GMT, specifically a BLNR.

I'm probably not the right guy to ask as I'm a sucker for both... However I did start with the GMT as I travel a lot.

Having both for a long time I would recommend the sub... The bezel is so crowded on the gmt.. That's why I love the sub..

Comfort is obviously subjective but reality is it's almost impossible to know just how comfortable a watch will be for you until you buy it. If it's new, most (all?) ADs are not going to touch the links. If it's pre-owned, you might get lucky and find one sized close enough to wear it for a few mins and tell.

I have seen many people say they detected no difference wearing these models, and I cannot see how that is accurate. The Sub is thicker, has a bubble caseback, is heavier, bigger claspp, and has a much more adjustable bracelet. The GMT is thinner, lighter weight, smaller clasp, flat caseback, and has easylink, which is very nice but no glidelock.

Another thing is price. I like both the no date Sub and the BLNR- but the price difference between those is pretty massive, 2.5-3k. Much closer price for the no date Sub and all black GMT II C. Both those pieces seem under the radar/a little undervalued at the moment, while the BLNR still commands a premium for the foreseeable future...

GMT, everyone has either a real Sub or a fake Sub or some kind of Sub homage design so why follow the herd and be like every other Jo when IMHO the GMT is a just as stunning with a more useful complication. Even if you were a scuba diver you would have to use a dive computer and as the GMT has a triplock crown it will be engineered to go deeper than it's advertised 100m depth rating so you could take it with you.

After owning 4 Different Subs, I now have converted to a GMT guy, but I travel back and forth to the UK a lot and having a watch that tells me GMT is handy when traveling, calling or emailing across the pond.

I tried on both a couple of weeks ago,I chose the sub, the reasons were the PCL seemed a bit blingy for the job I do.

The bezel on the sub seems to change shade in different lights, which I like

I find the sub comfortable to wear all day and I can't stop looking at it

Also take a look at the no date sub, you don't seem to see many about

But as said you'll eventually end up with borh,or even all three!
