Media interaction at it's best
I'm not a soccer fan, so don't know the details, but Cristiano Ronaldo's reaction to a reporter is priceless.

Classless act, to me... just say "no comment" .. The reporter was not asking a personal question or anything bad.

My favorite TV show is: "Around the Horn" A panel of sports journalists discuss the days topics and that was the top story. Their reaction was pretty much what you said, he is a spoiled brat, arrogant Pri- The reason is because he is having a terrible tournament, but that is no excuse, say "no comment" and walk on. The reporter didn't even have a chance to ask his question.

This didn't anger me as much as his comments against Iceland after Portugal drew with them.

When it comes to the best football player on the planet, he's probably in the top three. Some may argue Gareth Bale and/or Leo Messi are better. Bale is almost there and Messi has the personality of an empty glass.
He can be a bit petulant but he can certainly walk the walk. Trouble is, he never seems to do quite so well at international level as he does at club level. His comments about Iceland were correct; they had no intention of playing the game and were content to park the bus. However, it wasn't very sportsman-like to publicly criticise them. Chucking the reporter's mic into the lake, whilst funny, was not very acceptable.

Arrogant prick or not, be does more charity work than most sports stars.
I'll happily put up with a guy that dives on the field, and acts like a brat if he does as much as this one does off the field.

Some of the media is to blame as well. Although some of the high caliber athletes have been coddled and babied their whole life, never been told no or rarely pay for things when they go out.
I give them a little slack if they lash out but if they do it at the appropriate time I understand sometimes. I wouldn't want a camera shoved in my face every time after a game or out with the family. Neymar was here last week, very nice kid to all the people that came up to him. Half the trash talking is to get into the opponents head anyways. Anyone who sits court side at a basketball game will hear some funny stuff. Really funny

I thought it a display of commensurate professional courtesy.
Well, I mean between snakes they are about the same - reporters with ambush questions and petulant soccer stars... I suppose it could be worse, the coaches might've chucked the reporter into the lake as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

the question is...are professional athletes/celebrities obligated to cooperate with the media? it must get tiresome having to respond to the same banal questions over & over again and some media reporters are little more than antagonistic pests.
with the possible exception of sports 'color analysts' most of these reporters never excelled in the sport that they are covering so maybe there's a touch of resentment on their part. |

I think Messi is better, way better passer, more about team then himself. He was amazing against the US a few nights ago.

The only reason that they are a professional and make a decent living out of a hobby is the media attention.
