The Rolex PM range is a different animal altogether and every speck of machined material has to be accounted for and recycled - this alone is a major exercise in efficiency and security.

I have said this before - I could give you a kg of gold or Pt but you couldn't make a YG DayDate or a Pt Daytona.

Yes, the Pt is stamped out of a sheet, then processed. Just like coins at the mint. The excess is recycled, just like the mint. It's not that hard.

Or, you can believe that Rolex has captive platinum elves who hand carve each case out of a block of platinum using unicorn horn, conserving the metal shavings in a basket spun from Rapunzel's golden locks.

I could make the case and back in my machine shop back home. Send me the kilo of Pt and I'll get right on it.

I machine parts for my unmentionables hobby on occasion. Given drawings and dimensions, a watch case wouldn't be that hard. It won't be fast, but it's not a difficult problem. I could probably accomplish it in a month or so (Rolex quality takes a year, after all).

Stamping blanks is much less wasteful than machining the entire part. And much faster. Their manufacturing process is set up for blanks from everything I've seen.

I just googled the Pt price at $35K and change for your kilo, plus shipping it to me in Arkansas.
