Slightly uneven lugs on a new tudor watch
Alright guys wasn't really sure if this is the place to post this question so I apologise if it's not.but I recently purchased my first tudor really nice size watch.I bought a blackbay as a late 40th birthday gift to myself because I don't have many dive watches.anyway my question is for other blackbay owners and anyone that would like to chime in,are the lugs supposed to be slightly uneven in size,I was admiring the watch as you do,and noticed the bottom left lug and top right lug look slightly thinner than the top left and bottom right lug.the watch was bought new so it's not been polished.thanks for reading

Thank you friend for the fast response.I assumed it is supposed to be like that but I had never seen another blackbay before so wasn't tottally sure, the ad only had one.I think they are preparing for the new 2016 style blackbay to be delivered

Can you put up a photo that shows the difference?

I doubt it should be uneven, my BB are in par to Rolex quality standards. Agree with Adam, a picture will help to visualize what you are referring to.

Sure no problem but it's not really ovbious.but once you notice it you can see it easily.I've had it for a few weeks and only noticed yesterday.just wondering the reason tudor cut the cases this way.pics are not great as I don't have a good camera I'm afraid, but thetop right lugs is definitely thinner than the left.and the bottom left is thinner than the right.my pics are not great so you may not be able to see

They should be even, but because of the bevels they can look uneven depending on lighting and viewing angle. Make sure you view it straight on under good non directional lighting. Also view from the underside where there is no bevel.

Looks fine to me in pictures, I don't see any discrepancy.

You are probably right that the bevels catch the light and maybe perhaps distort the look.I first noticed what I thought was uneven lugs when I was looking at this tudor in a mirror admiring it ,then looking closer the top right lug seems slimmer than the left.but I'm not worried was just intrested in why tudor did this.thank you very much for taking a look

I see on yours what I see on Rolex sport watches I own and others I see. The crown side lugs are slightly thinner than the non crown side. Most Rolex sport watches have had a variation between lugs for many years. I have a Tudor 79090 they use a Rolex 1680 case and many are thinner on the non crown side vs the crown side . I get a chuckle out of these "is it over polished threads" and comments. You would have to grind the case with a stone wheel to take that much material off. Perhaps if they are supposed to be equal on new Tudors then I suggest it's an illusion of lighting and angles. Either way it looks great, enjoy it.

Around the late 90's I came across a couple of Rolex watches that had the same issue. One was on a second hand watch. The other was a Mid-case which was replaced as a repair after a particularly dumb but serious accident. It was immediately returned for a replacement because of the uneven lug width. |

Could other blackbay owners post a photo of the uneven lugs?

Go have a look at the same model in other stores, and see if you can see a difference between those and yours.
Given the cases are CNC machined, unless there’s some manual setting of a datum, all the cases should come out exactly the same, and no polishing wheel is going to ever remove that much material. If you do that, then it may put your mind at rest or you could speak with Rolex at St James, and see what they say/suggest. |

I just took a look at some pictures of my dads old BlackBay - I really think it's the bevelled edges that make lugs appear thinner/thicker in certain lights and angles

Thanks bud.I'm intrested to see what other blackbay owners have to say on this aswell.it's kind of interesting. I wonder if there is a reason for tudor doing this to the blackbay watch,I assume they make the pelagos lugs uneven aswell the cases look similar shape.but I still can't see uneven lugs looking at pics of other blackbay watches online.anyway thanks for taking the time to chime in

you seem to be taking a very idealistic view
i have purchased plenty of new products in my time which have had blemishes on them even rolex can make mistakes i agree though i would have thought it was the bevelled lugs which make it look this way, i noticed the same thing with my watch.

I have a BBN, purchased in December 2015. I cannot visually discern any difference in the lug width/profile. I agree that that case bevel sometimes makes one lug look thinner depending on angle or lighting. When I look at the case from the back, however, they appear identical to me.
Maybe I need to break out my calipers and measure... |

Did you purchase it new? If so, something looks off to me. Like the lugs have no brushed finish on them. Maybe it's just the lighting but it looks almost way over-polished to me.
