Well that's really the key. A true great can make the unlikeliest guitar sound great. A truly great luthier can make an mediocre guitar play great too.

I guess they're avoiding high-priced Gibsons and saving their money to buy a new Rolex or two! Are you thinking of buying a Slash Custom Shop guitar? Those are cool! If it's a limited edition - I think they will eventually appreciate a good bit. From what I can tell now is a 'better' time to buy any high-end Gibson as for a while 'too many dollars were chasing the supply' (e.g. a year ago!).

I did get one of the Gibson Slash guitars. Got is secondhand from a guy in LA and saved quite a few $$$.

Yesterday, I got a complimentary leather jacket issued by Gibson. It is really a good quality leather motorcycle jacket, so that is a big bonus.

Gibson was the best,,, now that thy are no longer in Kalamazoo mi ..now for the good news 3 men, Jim Deurloo, Marvin Lamb, and JP Moats, decided to start a guitar manufacturing business. In 1985 when the company was incorporated, 2 other former Gibson Guitar Corporation employees, Bill Paige and Mike Korpak, joined as owners. i have known Jim Deurloo of over 7 years now.. Heritage Guitar Inc.

Not a guitarist, but a drummer ( oil and water LOL), my perception is that have their own unique sound and are not catch all guitars.
From a Strat to a Les Paul to a Rickenbacker to a Gretsch hollow body.
Would not use a Gretsch hollow for rock unless it were the old early 60's and would not use a Strat or Les Paul for jazz. Just from what I like when playing in bands of different types!

I do remember when an ealry teenager and a band member bought an SG, loved the looks and the sound.

I don't mind Fender, they do make a good guitar no doubt about that.

But Gibson is the Rolex of guitars

Fender telecaster!!! When paired with the right amp (personally...marshall jcm 900 150 watt tube head paired with marshall jcm 900 4x12 cab) AND the right tools (personally, boss reverb, equalizer, noise reducer, distortion, acoustic simulator, and a crybaby wah...) CANNOT BE BEAT...Ive owned several les pauls...several strats, and evena 1962 Gibson SG (which was phenominal)...also owned PRS....and NOTHING compares to my tele when it comes to pure clean tones and a COMFORTABLE GUITAR that I can stand to play for hours!!!!!!! I tend to enjoy seymour duncan pick-ups and occasionally fiddle with the tele setup...but even out of the box...its a beautiful ( vintage cream with white pickguard!) and its original setup needs very little adjusting. nuff' said!

I think it's possible as long as you don't mind using a Router to widen the pick-up housing!

Here is my Gibson CS '57 RI Goldtop. The weight is about 8 pounds even. Obviously, if my son can handle it, an adult can too. I love this guitar. It's got a great blues tone, and the Bigsby is lots of fun. This is the only CS '57 RI with a Bigsby that was aged by Tom Murphy (a few others have unaged Bigsbys, but there are still very, very few of these). I am glad I traded my Gretsch for it.





This is my latest Fender, built from vintage parts BEFORE Fender introduced their crappy Joe Strummer knock off.



I built a web site for it, www.strummerguitar.com. It gets between 2,000 and 3,000 hits per month, which is a testament to this great artist.

I'm just awestruck by this all. As some of you know I'm a great fan of guitar music, followed some lessons but was told 'to forget all about it'. I just worship from afar.

I saw a short documentary about Jan Akkerman yesterday. Guys like him make it look sooooooo easy. While reading a WiKi about him I found out that Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson owns one of Jan's signed guitars. I wonder by what chain of events this came about

I have played for about 42 years. Always loved my GLP's. Fenders are nice but can never get used to anything but a rosewood fretboard.

And there is noting IMO like a solid mahogany body to get the sustain I like.

With that said, Fender's have it all sewn up in the bass guitar department. But that's just me.

I love the Gibson L5CES and Super 400 as well as Fender Strats and Teles but I don't play them since I'm an acoustic player.

Boy, I'll have to remember not to get all hoyte toyte about my Santa Cruz OMC Braz any more... Looks like you're in another league entirely. VERY nice!! I should have known it would be a Ryan or Wingert, etc. What's your configuration?? Tonewoods, cutaway, bevel, etc. Being a 'Jumbo' body (roughly), hows the balance??? World class guitar... nice
