Tudor

Get the Tudor, then save for the Daytona. Then you have a less fragile sapphire crystal dive watch to someday become your beater to go with your Daytona.

I would get Tudor Black Bay, in house movement. It is cheaper than the Omega and technically a better watch than a modern Omega moonwatch.

However, the Speedy has an amazing history if you have the patience to get a correct cal 861 from the 70s or a cal 321 ref 145.012 then get the Omega. Mind you the cal. 321 will cost way more and the time investment needed to get a correct example is significant.

I've actually owned both back to back (Sold Speedmaster to fund Pelagos).

I would choose the Pelagos personally. The speedy is a nice watch, but I discovered that I don't like the manual wind, low water resistance, and hesalite crystal. I found myself babying the watch way to much due to the water resistance and softer crystal.

The Pelagos was an amazing watch (sold awhile ago) and would be my choice.

The hesalite crystal is another concern of my mine - it seems like it would scratch easily... is it expensive to repair?

Personally, I would choose the Speedmaster. It's well known on watch forums that the hesalite crystal scratches easier than a sapphire obviously...BUT you can polish the crystal to look as good as new ( even if it scratches) by using polywatch with a cloth. Takes a couple minutes and the crystal looks as good as new. A tube of polywatch is cheap.

When in serious doubt, get both.

But first lets make a moment of silence.. to contemplate the superiority of Pelagos in-house over Moonwatch.

The band.. the lume.. the water resistance.. the readability.. the movement. Period.

Like someone said before, you can get a tube of Polywatch and polish the crystal back to looking good. The main reason for my concern is that I am a one watch guy, so whatever watch I own, I wear it exclusively and daily. Light scratches are easy to get rid of, deeper scratches would require replacement of the hesalite (which is pretty inexpensive, just a pain to have to send your watch in somewhere to have it done.)

I don't disagree - love the Pelagos' bracelet, in house movement - it's a modern day sub without the price. I like the iconic status of he moonwatch but the modern package that the Tudor offers...

I've owned 2 Speedmasters. I bought another one a few months after the first one. I bought the first one purely because I love NASA and the link between the Speedy and NASA. I bought the second one because I thought I missed having it after selling the first one. Ended up selling the second one about 2 weeks after I got it.

In my experience, don't get something just because of its "iconic" status. Get it because you genuinely love the piece.
I've gone through quite a few watches in the past year, many of them I bought mainly because they were talked a lot about on forums, or were iconic. I never warmed up to most of them after the honeymoon phase.

I have a Ceramic Submariner now, and love the thing. I bought it because after owning a pre-ceramic sub, I knew I wanted the upgrades that the new version offered.

The Speed Master is one of the coolest watches ever made and should be acquired sooner rather than later. The Pelagos is nice too though. I have neither in my collection though so what do I know?

If for whatever reason I didn't have my Daytona, I would have a Speedy. Tudors are nice; but I haven't found myself in need of one just yet. Maaaybe the BB Dark. Maybe.

Clearly you haven't owned a pelagos.

Put Rolex on the dial and it's a 10k watch all day worldwide and a best seller. It's that good.
