I always just figured if you don't want the actual COLOR of gold on your wrist, I see no good reason to buy white gold (or platinum) over stainless. The color is so similar, but the cost is soooooo much higher. Other than the personal satisfaction of wearing gold I see no actual practical benefits of wearing WG over SS.
Now if you want to wear yellow or rose gold on your wrist, then I get it for sure. |

It was a joke inspired by another poster claiming that his YG watches were less scratched-up than his steel ones. I would have thought that was obvious, but I've already had to point it out to others, so perhaps it wasn't obvious.

I tend to wear the watch appropriate for the activity - I wouldn't wear any PM piece for a countryside scramble up a hill, and I wouldn't wear a steel Rolex for a sedate social occasion. Perhaps that's why PM pieces suffer fewer knocks? |

Ha! Yeah sometimes I guess I read too literally into forum posts. It's hard to have humor come across subtly on forums isn't it? My post was 75% tongue in cheek and 25% fact.

When I think of strong, durable and hefty, I think Stainless Steel.
If I want elegant, luster and luxury: White Gold or Pt...but, my budget doesn't allow for those. |

For me it's simple: I can afford multiple SS watches, but if I bought a PM watch it would likely have to be my only watch...and that would be terrible!
If I had more disposable income I would definitely have several WG and platinum watches. WG Daytona with blue dial, RG DD40, RG ROO 44...there are so many beautiful PM watches out there! |

Gold is softer, that's why it's easier to scratch, PCLs included. |

SS in my opinion is more versatile (jeans and a t-shirt as well as a suit).

You answered your own question. I wouldn't mind gold or platinum, but SS is affordable. The only potential issue with gold I can see for everyday watch is the weight.

I really like this bracelet. And the watch. Are these still made?
I would like to see a Rolex bracelet like this, in TT. To my the center link is too much gold, in TT. |

The Tudor? Yes, but only for a few markets, like Hong Kong. Ref number is 76200. There's a two tone version, too.

I also prefer white metal but wouldn't be at all comfortable dropping huge sums of money on WG or platinum. Aside from that, sticking to SS allows a larger collection and less depreciation when purchasing new.

The other thing to remember with Rolex is. Stainless Steel is king. With Patek, PM is king. With Rolex, it's more likely that one will see a reasonable resale value or even a positive return on investment with a SS sports model. Not so with PM Rolex. |

Stainless steel goes with anything, in my opinion, plus I know if I had gotten a gold bracelet, or even the Rolesor, I'd be ridiculously paranoid about scratching it up. Steel, I don't care; the watch gets worn and dinged up and gives it character. But I see gold as an "investment" and would go nuts keeping it polished and smooth. I'd probably only wear it a few hours a week.

A few
- I personally like the price point and the fact that you can replace it, hurt it without feeling like it's a gigantic loss.... - easier to find replacement parts for the same reason (not al - it is hard to significantly damage.... - More circumstantial is the fact that its highly collectible, easy to flip and get a significant part of the value back... |
