1953 Sub -- present day. You would choose?
Found this image of a 1953 Sub (no date) and the latest model the 114060
Putting the value aside, which would you like to wear?? I know a lot of you guys on this Forum probably own both, but it will be interesting to see which one would get more wear on a daily basis...? My choice - I think I would enjoy wearing the old one.... |

For wearing, the new one. For collecting, the old one.
Most of the concern is water resistance, which can by chance happen to fail even if the seals are checked regularly. Stuff happens, you know? If water gets in the case on the new one, send it to RSC, pay a little if not covered by warranty, and you're good. If the water got into the old one, it's pretty much never going to be the same and will need a service dial. |

Love no crown guards, acrylic crystal and riveted bracelet! So 1953 would be my choice!

I would like to wear any Sub ever made, except the 114060/116610, so it's a pretty easy decision for me.

114060 without a doubt. The lack of a crown guard makes the facade look incomplete and sorta dainty. Just not very attractive.

Since you said value aside, easy, modern one.

The watch on the left is probably worth about $500,000.
I don't think I could wear that, much less pay for it.

Modern. Love the maxi dial (that's what the larger markers are called?). Not a huge fan of vintage. Just my taste of course.

Probably, the ones in circulation are not worth that much, but this one with the small crown is supposed to be rather rare and the one in the picture looks mint. Whatever its true cost, it's out of my league and I wouldn't wear it, if somehow I came into possession of one, and I'm a guy who wears his watches.

For an everyday watch, modern every time.
As part of a collection to be worn on special occasions etc, vintage. |
