big thank you to Land Rover Roadside Assistance UK
7am today was driving my Range Rover L405 and suddenly the dreaded amber warning triangle comes up on the display!
a) Hill Descent Control not available - system fault b) Stability Control not available c) Emergency Brake Assist not available drove very carefully back home and called Roadside Assistance and explained the problem - i was offered an AA visit within 1 hour or a Land Rover visit within 2 hours chose Land Rover as they know the cars and carry commonly needed spares parts they also said even on Christmas Day if the car could not be fixed at home they would deliver me another 4 x 4 today guy arrived early having driven nearly 60 miles - immediately after plugging in his pc diagnosed the problem as a brake pedal switching module basically the car 'thought' it had no brakes so this lead to the other fault codes the module is fortunately used on just about every Land Rover so a spare was available and fitted within about ten minutes i had to go and drive about five miles and use heavy braking so he could test the brake temperatures to see the new module was working perfectly i have knocked Land Rover in the past but for any day let alone Christmas day the service was exemplary |

Great service.
The fault does further cement LR's poor reliability reputation though. |

what happened was a small plastic lug on said module broke off - module then became loose - hence fault BUT and this cannot be confirmed, but the tech thought that the module may have been removed by the main dealer when i recently had pads/discs replaced and was not refitted correctly? lets face it Land Rover owners are masochists but we would never drive anything else - in the UK there is nothing that comes to the Range Rover in terms of luxury and off road capability and yes, i have looked at the new Bentley and the Cayenne |

I'm so glad to hear how smoothly that went in the end. Hopefully this doesn't happen again though

Good service story. You need it. I had a 2012 RR HSE and it was the worst vehicle I have ever owned when it came to quality control issues, service and maintenance. I knew it all going in and I bought it anyway. Loved the styling and the ride was good. Never again.

The trick to Land Rover ownership is to buy two so one is available at any given time.

to be honest i have had five plus Land Rovers including three Range Rovers
the build quality today is vastly improved but given the level of technology there are problems with all 'high end ' modern cars - Porsche being particularly bad followed by Mercedes the component at fault was an industry standard part fitted to many other non Land Rover vehicles - inc Volkswagen etc and lets not forget that Land Rover is an aspirational brand in the US and the sales figures show this over the entire range it is still the epitome of a luxury car with amazing on and off road capabilities we Brits do some things really well - and yes, Land Rover is Indian owned now but is Brit designed from the first ever cars we are also quite good (worlds best) at handmade suits in Saville Row/handmade shoes/shotguns/top hats and Accuracy International sniper rifles |

I can attest to the hand made shoes, but two of the last three are best made in the USA. |

We have one of the new RR Evoque models and it's had a few issues already....despite 2 year service intervals it had to be serviced (last week) at 1 year old due to oil dilution (LR picked up the bill).
It's also had some issues with infotainment system etc, and has had the brake pads replaced under warranty due to brake squeal. That aside it drives beautifully and my wife absolutely loves it which is a huge bonus lol. Also for a 4x4 automatic it gets great MPG and looks the part. |

Oh boy. This thread just has LR bashing tee'd up and all ready to go.
Sounds like great service. I'd be shocked if I could get that kind of service in my neck of the woods. Going on 6k miles, and only a minor issue to speak of so far. And to say I enjoy the car is a vast understatement. Hopefully it holds out. I can't see it going past the warranty in my household, but it would be lovely if it stayed out of the repair shop until then.

Also the brakes squeak like a 93 Cavalier. But....... It drives like no other. I've never had an SUV with the PERFECT ride height and handling like this. You win some, you lose some! |

Things go wrong with all brands. It's how they deal with them that count.
Well done LR. |

Purdey/Holland and Holland/Churchill etc make the best shotguns in the world admittedly mainly side by sides which are less popular in the US top hats - well i still reckon our silk 'toppers' are the best? sniper rifles - your spec operators buy plenty of AI rifles especially the .338 Lapua also we make the reactive armour for your Abrams tanks nobody else has shooting of the Red Grouse and our Atlantic Salmon fishing is still the best this is a jest post and in no way intended to offer offence |

Tesco etc buy it by the ton and sell it cheaper than cod wild Atlantic salmon for the table in the UK now costs a fortune because of quite rightly the limits on the catches to preserve natural stock level if any of you guys in the US want to buy UK smoked salmon cured and smoked in the traditional way if you message me i can give you contacts - i have no interest with any companies and receive no commission but you better have a 'healthy' credit card as it is very expensive personally i only have smoked salmon i have caught but of lake i much prefer smoked eel! |
