Why not have a gold sub? They are great watches, albeit yellow gold is not for me personally. Nice to have the choice, and whoever buys one may not fancy a Patek, AP etc. It's all subjective, as for sure people may not love my choice of exp II and pelagos but personally I love them and that's all I worry about.

Gold is a very special material prized for its weight, colour, durability and prestige for centuries.

The Submariner is a very special watch from Rolex.

So it was a natural marriage of a special material for a special model.

The Gold Submariner is not for everyone, but once you have the appreciation and the experience you will understand.

a gold rolex is the price of a stainless pp ,,,
at that point , any gold rolex is a bargain , relativly speaking.
the sub is an icon ,,,, thats it i guess.

Submariner is the most iconic watch in the world, and the most beautiful, IMHO.
Gold just makes it even better, regardless of whether you dive with it, or just wear it as a fashion statement. Who Cares? Live and Let Live!

You don't like the YG Sub and I'm ok with that. I'm not a fan either but only because YG doesn't suit me and it's a bit too loud for my taste. However, I don't knock the watch.

For me, it would have to be the WG Sub if I went down the PM route but I prefer to have a small collection of SS.

Saying you hate the 'raised white dot' makes you sound like little more than a petulant child. Oh, and my mother doesn't own one either.

It's a matter of personal preference, that's all. To each his own.

Blue sunburst dial and blue bezel with the yg is beautiful. That and I like the idea of a gold tool watch. How many all gold watches in that price range can you go diving in and are reliable as the sub?

For me the Submariner is the ultimate Rolex. It is where I started 25 years ago and it will probably be where I end up when it is all over for me. The look, fit, finish are all great. With the addition of the Glidelock Bracelet it is just about perfect. With that said, I own two PM Day Date II's and no PM Sub at this time. My Hulk dominates my collection for wrist time. It is about personal preference.

My favorite gold watch is the non C Bluesy followed closely by a GMT 18kt Root Beer.
I have had two TT Bluesys and an 18kt Bluesy. All three got wet.

This watch has garnered more nice comments from non-WIS than any other I've owned. The one comment that stuck with me the most was someone stating that the Bluesy was in their opinion, the "iconic" Rolex. Either way, it's a fantastic watch.

It's kind of like a flow chart.

First, there's owning a gold watch in general: Having a gold watch on your wrist has an incredible look and feel about it. I can't tell you about it...it's something you've got to experience for yourself. Now, I freely admit, this isn't for everybody. Not everybody wants it or experiences the joy when they strap one on. And that's OK, to each their own.

However, if you do like the look and feel of a gold watch, that's where I can make the case for the sub. The sub, with its glide lock clasp and super adjustable bracelet, is one of the most comfortable and adaptable sports watches in the line up. This is key when you're talking about wearing a gold watch...it's very heavy. The DD, which many members will tout as the 'proper' PM, has zero adjustability.

The timing bezel is one of the most useful functions for every day life I have found (and I'm no diver). Add this usefulness and the comfort/adjustability to the stunning good looks and feel of all gold and you've got a home run, IMO.

I get that it's not for everybody. But, I also think when you're talking gold watches, the sub is right at home.

I didn't like YG - but then I bought one. You know what; that changed my mind - the same way my first Rolex changed my mind when I said 3 months earlier that "I will never buy a Rolex..."

Is it just me or does the internal cut section of the crown guards look slightly angular.. looks like five cuts/edges instead of three?

Did I read somewhere that crownguards were machined by hand..that would explain the slight variation?
