Found my old watch

Cleaning out my closet at my parents house and found a box. I opened it up and found my old Seiko 5 that I got from my grandfather when I was in high school. I haven't worn the watch in at least 14 years. It seems to be running well and keeps good time. I think I'm going to have this watch serviced so it can look new again. At this point it probably needs new gaskets and a crystal. Is this watch still easy to get parts for because it is 40 years old?

That's a great find. How nice to have something from your grandfather.

Congratulations on the find.

That watch is definitely worth preserving.

A friend of mine who recently passed away always wore a Seiko 5 he bought way back in the early 70s. He took excellent care of it, having it serviced routinely.

I always complimented him on his Seiko.

Thanks, it feels great to wear it again. I put my Rolex Datejust in the drawer for a while while I enjoy this old/new watch.

I definitely want to bring this watch to factory fresh condition. It was manufactured December 1976. It has a very 70s Gerald Genta case design. It has that one piece design like the AP Royal Oak and Rolex Oysterquartz.

It shouldn't be a problem getting this one restored. Well worth it due to the sentimental value and the way you rediscovered it. Looking forward to the update!

Thank you for all your comments. I put the Seiko into the safe will Hand it over to my watchmaker to get it overhauled after the new year. I'm back to wearing my Rolex again.

That is really awesome. I'd love to see pictures after you get it serviced and polished up. Thanks for posting.

That is awesome. I have a soft spot for Seiko's of all kinds, and that is a permutation on the "Seiko 5" I am unfamiliar with. Cherish and enjoy!
