This place is still an online haven in the swirling cesspit of most of social media.

I think if Steve ups the daily ban quota for Mods it could possibly change more so.

Great place here. I think we're a pretty tight knit online forum.

I have been a member for nearly 11 years. While I dont have a lot of posts I follow the forum every day. Over this time, to me, the board has remained pretty constant with the same types of questions popping up by newer members. That is to be expected IMO. I do miss the friendly banter with JJIrani though. Aloha all, Tim

I agree with the OP. I think the general flavour and focus has changed slightly from helpful interest to posturing and self congratulation. There seem to be a lot more offensive posts and "locker room" talk. We used to have a lot more active female members here who are sadly missing.

I believe it was one of my first several weeks on this site when I visited the portion where other brands can be discussed; I asked where one might purchase extra links for my Cartier Galbee. I received a reply asking my address and how many links I needed. I was cautious but stunned that a member would just send me links containing 18kt. gold. Three days later they arrived; unused! The member refused money and said he had extras; a wonderful and thoughtful gesture. That was many years ago.... I don't see that anything has changed. It is a great and diverse group that has only watches and respect for all members. Sponsors demand nothing less.

New member here. I did maybe most hated thing here, when I joined the forum. Without knowing that it was expected to introduce myself as a new member first, I instantly started the thread with a question... Reactions weren't good, I was 'identified' as Terry Allison (whoever that might be), etc. But after sending PM, and my explanation, I really got a warm welcome. And introduced myself as a new member. I have to say that people were really nice.
So maybe the real advice here was to send Private Message to some member with a good knowledge for specific subject, in case there were no answers. I wish to add something, too... Putting on a side watch discussion, after I started to read posts on Open Discussion Forum, I must admit that I found totally different way of life and thinking (considering I'm European and most of the members are US citizens), and I was thinking how it would be tough to me to fit-in. Few times I wanted to give kind of advice, from, let's say, 'another point of view', that could be of help, but I didn't know how that would be understood, so I rather stayed as an 'observer'. Please don't think those differences are something negative, on the contrary, that is like when You learn something new... I enjoy reading, and from time to time I find opportunity to add something. |

Since I have been on TRF I have picked up a lot of knowledge about watches. I have tried to share things I could with others too. Some of the best time have been meeting, spending face-to-face time with other members and phone conversations. TRF is more than a place to talk watched, enable each other and congratulate others. This place is where we make life long friends. Thanks TRF!
