Is it me or does the Maxi-dial

Seem not maxi anymore but just regular to small?

I dont have any 5 digit references but if I did I would probably feel that they are minuscule.

Looks just right to me, I don't think I'd want the markers or hands any bigger...

I own a 5 digit Sub, and with my middle age eyes, yes the plots seem very small compared to maxi dial.

Originally went to my AD to buy a Daytona!
When I saw my BFF's white gold black face Daytona,I fell in love.
Went to the AD to look at the SS model. Couldn't read the dial.
I went GMT II

Yours looks perfect!

It's you. They look maxi at the AD compared to my 16600. If you need huge markers, try this one.

Dumb question (and embarrassingly, I have tried to search google) what is the difference between a maxi and a gilt dial?

Gilt is a dial printing technique. It's a negative print. Rather than printing the letters and tick marks on top of the painted dial, those are not printed at all on the base coat allowing the bare metal dial color (brass typically) to show through. There may be a clear lacquer coat to preserve the dial metal from tarnishing. But, what you see as a gold colored writing is actually the dial metal that was never painted.

Maxi dial is basically bigger, easier to see markers. The two are unrelated.

I think the 5 digit reference dials look a bit less crowded and more elegant however I can't deny that the legibility of the maxis are far superior. It would be cool to see the smaller index on the new super oyster. (Not suggesting a Frankenstein Rolex just the image to see how it would look). What does everyone think?
