No idea what to do

Hey guys, been awhile since I have posted. So some of you may know I have had a 16610 for a year or two. Well I DID have it. Life came and I decided to use it as a down payment on an beautiful tacori engagement ring for my girlfriend of 7 years which I was happy to do. Traded it back to the same shop I bought it from so I wasn't out any money. Now fast forward she has put 2 and 2 together and figured out my beloved Rolex is gone and on her finger. She came to me and wants to buy me a Rolex as a wedding present. I don't know what I should get. I miss my 16610 as it fit my smaller wrist so nice.

She wants to get me a used 118238 as she knows thats my grail watch. She doesn't wanna get me a 16610 then once we get older and I buy a 118238 and the 16610 gets put away and not worn on a daily basis. But i'm only 23 and know for a fact I couldn't ''pull it off'' wearing an all gold watch daily. I can't decide which would be the best route to take. We are both financially sound and either watch wouldn't be a risk to us.

Pick the watch that fits me best now? or
Pick the watch that will suit me better later in life?

Get the sub now and invest the difference to save for the 118238. I know you posted that the both of you are financially sound. However, if those are your feet in the combine in your profile pic, then you know unexpected outlays can and do happen.

I vote 16610 because you're absolutely right, the day-date is not quite age appropriate. I'm also 23 and even if I had all the money in the world I wouldn't wear a day date too often or even at all. The BLNR is a nice piece also but if this is going to be your only watch for quite some time then certainly go for the sub. Its the most versatile of the three and also the cheapest...and at our age that makes the most sense. Personally I would recommend a 116610 but thats just me. If you can get your old watch back from that same dealer then definitely do that. Congrats on the engagement and my advice is save the day date for an anniversary down the road.

I would get the submariner. much more versatile than a day-date. I suppose you could put the day-date on leather to dress it down.

Personally I would go the BLNR route. I think it will give you what you are looking for.

The replies have me puzzled...I didn't see mention of blnr......but in terms of long term value I think the sub is a safer choice (assuming you're buying your old one back?)....gold is something you might never grow into. But yes I think blnr is a stunning choice if you decide to go that route heh.

Well, as for the watch, a YG President serving as a daily working watch will require a sweatband on your wrist so it isn't beat to death doing chores around the farm - and then you'd not know the time anyway...

If the 16610 was just the down payment for the ring - and you still owe $$$ to pay that off - then you're financially soundness is going to take a hit when she plunks down nearly $20K for the watch.

It appears you're a hard working chap so a beater is probably best, and a 118238 in the safe for evenings. If you dress smart enough you can pull it off. Looks a bit much at your age (and mine) with shorts and T (retired look). You've had a Subby Already. Time to up your game!

I would also say this BLNR if your wrist can pull it off. Thank you, it's nice to hear someone my age opinion on this. I'm gonna go with the sub and like you said save day date for another life achievement. Thanks again!

Ring is payed for just used the my sub to get the cash I forked over down a little. And I agree I wore my 16610 everyday on the farm with confidence it could handle everything.
