Current Sea Dweller owners - what would make you switch?
So with all the chatter of the SD4k possibly on its way out, I was wondering if a new 50th anniversary model is released to replace it:
1) what would make a current owner switch to a new version? 2) what could entice you to own both? I've said all along I love mine as is, it's the "if I can only have one watch" watch. Some red lettering would be awesome, but too little too late for me as I'd probably just stick with what I have vs bearing the cost to change up. If coming in as a new owner, then I'd probably want that red lettering. Bigger case? Green gradient dial (a la Deep Blue...)? Deep Sea type clasp? |

The new one would have to be matt dial and red lettering for me to consider the switch, plus the same 40mm case as now.
However, it would likely cost me £2000 to switch so I probably wouldn't! |

Prob not. If they discontinue the SD4k I won't be selling mine. Being that it would only be a 30 month run they could become sought after.

Prob end up with both. Assuming I like the new one.
Definitely can't see myself getting rid of THE perfect current SD4K, esp if it is now a short production run model (from Rolex perspective) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Nothing would make me switch. Red lettering is cool on the older ones because they are hard to come by, but on a modern watch I'm not sure it would do anything to enhance it.
My wrists are too small for 42mm so wouldn't swap it for a bigger model.A matte dial and fully brushed case would improve it, but still wouldn't trade. But might add!!

Pleeeese tell me what would be so speacial about red lettering??? I just don't get it.
That would do NOTHING to the watch, imo the black&white combo is just perfect. (I know about the double red sedwellers but that was then, this is now. Past performance is not indicative of future results.) Anyway, lately I have been thinking about adding the DSSD (b&w) to my SD but I just don't like the height of that watch, everything else is awesome. So if Rolex were to replace the current model with a 42, or even a 44 mm with the current SD height I'd be very tempted... The 44 version would also mean the discontinuation of the current DSSD. I can't see myself ridding the sd4k....it is the perfect modern diver for me (6 digit). I will only add when the new anniversary is to my liking (red lettering etc). I won't pay the ludicrous premium on vintage red subs/SDs....but I will take the modern nod without a complaint and enjoy.

Gradient blue/black or light/dark blue dial would have my full attention. Red line is not enough.

I won't be selling mine because its simply the best watch for me and changing up won't make sense to me if I need to fork out more money for what I am guessing, small though significant changes.
What I would welcome in the anniversary watch are probably some red wording, dome crystal or perhaps a full green dial, maybe? |
