Some different views of the Deep Sea

Alot of the posts from TRF members refer to wanting to see the size of the Deep Sea in person. Rather than wait, I have tried to take several shots of the Deep Sea comparing size to other models while on my wrist. Some are not the greatest shots but I hope these will help. Please for give the quality and the date on the camera as I had to change battery and did not reset.

It is quite large but its not the face that is striking. It is the thickness.. The weight is heavier than a normal Sea Dweller but not nearly as heavy as the all gold daytona at 220gms!. IMHO the best feature is the glidelock system. It is awesome for varying bracelet size quickly! Hope to see that in other models!

Amazing to me that they put a 20 mm bracelet on that thing. Looks ridiculous. Whatever is layin around, eh?

i do not mind the thickness. but i can not take it when rolex relocated the word (original gas escape valve & the ring lock system) from the back of the case to the dial area.

it is like relocating ur back door and use it as ur front door.

I do wonder what it would have looked like on a larger than 20mm bracelet. I am finding myself be careful not to bump into doorways, desks, etc because I am aware of the thickness. Dont know if I will get used to that. To be honest. I wish Rolex had just added the glidelock and blue lume( which I think was a really good idea for diving) to the regular Sea Dweller and forgotten about the huge change in depth which is practically unusable anyway. Could the plan all along have been for this to be a short run production watch?

I dont really think so myself but might make for any interesting discussion.

Also, I see where a couple of members are asking if the date is hanging. It is not. I think its just the image angle from the camera

yeah it is interesting. why did the make it look so fat. for me it just ruins the refinement of a rolex which i find so attractive. i personally think sales might drop off in fairly short space of time - But that is just what i think.

Look on the brighter side, a bigger bracelet would have definitely added to the cost of DeepSea.

My 6.5 to 6.6 inch wrist circumference will not handle that behemoth, but your wrist can and does.

Makes me continue to want the garden variety SD, however , with its same size dial and sans the writing on the rehaut.

Thanks so much for the comparison pics. I have been wearing a YMII for a bit so the top view size of the watch is not that outrageous. Even the thickness looks a lot like my clown watch. The fact that the dial looks out of proportion to the watch design is what puts me off a bit.

Still a Rolex, still a nice watch and the next time I am visiting the Titanic I will make sure that the DSSD is down there with me!
