Will a Yacht master 116622 platinum dial hold its value?

Hi guys..

I've got an opportunity to purchase a SS YM 116622 with a platinum dial for a decent price.. Not really my first choice but if I can get it cheap enough I might have my arm twisted...

I'm just wondering if it'll keep its value relatively well, as it'll be stuck in my safe more than on my wrist.. I don't really have the time to do much research into this as I have to buy quick..

If you could answer on the value question rather than giving opinions about the quick sale I'd appreciate it.. I know the watch is 100% genuine..

No one can predict the future. Buy the watch if you like it and want to wear it. Not because you're hoping and praying it'll hold value. That's the wrong reason.

I believe this is the least popular of dial options, so I would think the price wouldn't hold very well. My two cents...

Going rate in the uk for a pre owned platinum dial is about 5 - 5.5k. The newer blue and rhodium dials are about 7k and above

6500 pounds is about 8000 USD which is a large enough sum I don't think it's worth buying a watch it doesn't sound like you want, and it's high enough that I don't think it'll be a good investment.

The platinum YM has the same issue as white gold Daytonas. The watches were made for a very long time, and the recent models look just like the older models aside from the clasp for the most part.

However, if it's a watch you want then that is a solid price.

Apparently, the list price is £9100 so I think that's a healthy enough discount? Rolex are poor at discounts at the best of times

I'm biased because I own one, but I think they've bottomed as well. I plan to hang on to mine. Who knows about the future. Lots of times things that were once unpopular become more valuable because there weren't as many made and are considered more "rare." The only drawback with the YM being that it has been made for many years. With that said, they are asking way too much for that watch, unless it's unworn and still stickered.
It's under appreciated, but feels fantastic on the wrist. The platinum makes it feel special, more like
a nice piece of jewelry that also happens to tell time. It feels more special than my BLNR, IMO.

I bought a pre-owned example that had only been worn once or twice a few years ago. It's completely mint and never been polished. I paid sub £5k for mine and if anything, the price went up as soon as they were discontinued.
It's fair to say it's not a mainstream Rolex sports model, but it is/was unique in the Rolex line up and a first for Rolex design in many ways.
It has a following for sure and I believe will slowly appreciate as the years roll by because it is no longer produced and because of the unique monotone design. There's nothing else quite like it and it's a beautiful piece appreciated by all who own them.

Just for reference, this is a brand new, warranty, boxed & papers watch from an AD that is closing down. Just in case you were thinking it was second hand or a grey..

I didn't think they'd stopped making them, shows my inexperience with Rolex knowledge..

That's a bit high, you'll be looking to get back 5ish, so I'd buy for under 6 if possible but still mint condition.

dont buy it dont, It is very similar to some TAG HEUERs models. I had one YM SS PL and when I realized that a Tag Heuer looked almost the same I sold it in a week. Think well about it.

Unless it is a keeper (which it seems it is not) then £6500 is too high if you are trying to avoid a loss when you move it on.
You will need it to be in low £5k to give comforts which is not likely to happen. So save your money and money and get something you really want.

That's comical. It doesn't look the slightest bit like a Tag.

I was looking at the same watch at Leonard dews in Blackpool. I assume it's the same AD as they have just lost their status. I passed on it. Only the discount sung to me, not the watch.

They are clearing all their Rolex stock. Everything reduced by 15% and then ask for another 10% on top as there was a flier sent out to previous customers.

If/when Rolex puts a ceramic bezel on it, I think the value would nose dive. It's not a watch with huge popularity anyway and the bezels age poorly. I really like the rhodium, but I think the plat dial will probably still drop considerably.

Its GREAT bang for your buck but I wouldn't expect it to move higher anytime soon. I really love the platinum dial and think its a great looking watch. Its awesome for enjoyment but I am not sure about investment.

I think some of you guys are misunderstanding this YM is the newer 116622 and not the older 16622.

Idk if it'll hold value or not, but You're not getting that watch for $5k or so.

Tbh, I like the face and bezel, one thing I am concerned about is whether it's chunky enough?.. well, today is decision day, let's hope I'll be purchasing my second Rolex in as many months..

I've seen no Tag Heuer models that look like it....what a stupid comment

The YM Plat SS is a stunning watch, and very unique but has a poor residual. If you're buying to keep, go for it. If you have any plans to flip, you will get a bloody nose. Even at £6,500, if you tried to px it you'd struggle to get 5k.

The fact it's the newer model won't make that much of a difference as they look so similar to the older model. It's now a discontinued dial and £9,100 RRP really is irrelevant as it's trade value is nowhere close. Blue and Rhodium dial versions are £8,500 RRP.

At £6,500 I'd be tempted as it's such a lovely piece but for £6,550 you could get a BLNR from an AD (if you can find one) and that's a millions times better a buy (resale wise). You could also get a Hulk for similar, or something nice from Basel (wishful thinking).

Plus you said you don't particularly love it, so Best Buy something you love.

there are some rolexes even at a 50% discount I would not buy...and ym is one of them. simply because the dial fades into the rest of the watch.

I think it is stunning and one of my fave watches. Nearly any watch you buy (in a window) from a AD will lose you money if you tried to re sell it immediately.

Buy it. If you get bored I will give you 5K any day of the week and if any of the posters on here know where you can buy that model (new/as new) in the UK for £5k (or low 5K) please let me know or post a link.

Hi.. It's the platinum dial and it retails at £9100. So it's an even better deal but nobody wants them lol.. A value of an item is only what people are prepared to pay.

I don't think they do the platinum dial anymore but I was confused too with the model numbers as it does seem to point towards the blue dial as you quoted.

Maybe someone on here can elaborate on this?

Weird why Rolex use the same model number for different watches.

Doesn't seem like that good of a deal. Why not my preowned if you really want a deal and not lose money.
So, you're going to buy a watch you really doesn't like, knowing you're going to lose money? Doesn't make much sense
