A personal pet peeve of mine is when customers come in or call asking for a Batman, a Hulk, etc. I don't really see why some people feel the need to nickname every new or modified Rolex. Rolex uses enough code for their watches such as BLNR, LV, GV that it shouldn't be too difficult to use the official designation.
That being said, I like the SD43 abbreviation. |

SD50
SD43 is not good for the long term if the next sea dweller stays 43mm.. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk |

I originally coined SD43 but based on Rolex's exaggerated measurements SD42 may more accurate!

The nickname has to make life easier to compare between models. Since we have the Great White, DRSD, SD, DSSD, SD4000/SDc, which are all relating to either the dial (Great White, DSRD), the depth (DSSD, SD4000), and these are all features. So I think "50th anniversary", which btw is an official Rolex designation, should be the feature we should use, hence the SD50!
For SD43, that's a bit of a misnomer, since nobody's quite sure whether it's 42mm++ or really 43mm. Since nobody knows for sure its true diameter, it's a little silly to call it SD43. So my vote goes to SD50 |

I plan on calling it the Sea Dweller.
But I can foresee SD43 becoming the shorthand used here to differentiate it from its predecessors. |

I agree with the SD43 seems the easiet to shorthand. Or SRSD43 (single Red Sea dweller). The reference number 126600, doesn't give you too much to work with (no LV or something to designate it as an anniversary model)

I've been using RSD, but like SD50, I don't think it really works as 50th is technically only the 2017 model and in that vein, the red text might go away after this year.
While we can debate for a while if it's really 43mm, bottom line is Rolex lists it as 43mm, so with that in mind (and the fact I do think it needs a shorthand name to easily differentiate it from the many other past SD's) I'm going with SD43 from now on. |
