maybe we can come up with an effective AR coating for bubble wrap, with kevlar-fiber bubbles that are filled with hydrogen sulfide so when one pops the rotten egg smell will alert the watch owner of a security breach

look up giant mousepad/desk mats. its a large mat meant to cover your keyboard and mouse area made out of the normal mousepad material.

I also use the tape method. I'm OCD and when I get it serviced in a few years time I'd prefer to keep the polishing to an absolute minimum so try my best to avoid desk diving scratches if I can.

Have you always worn a watch? Did you worry about scratching your old/other watches? Your new watch is just a watch al be it a nice one but I don't need extra stress from something that I bought to enjoy. Don't get me wrong I am not advocating you take it out side and drag it down the sidewalk, run it over with your car or use it as a hammer but babying it and persevering over every swirl from admittedly light use kinda defeats the purpose of owning such a piece. Wear it enjoy it and if you are so lucky pass it down with a story or two to a child or someone you care about when the time comes. Just my two pennies .

The problem I have with protecting the clasp is that over time scratches will accumulate over the rest of the watch but your clasp will look mint. That would bother me more than scratches on the clasp.

I'm in the just wear it and forget side of the argument. Unless you've discovered you have some rare collectible Rolex that is worth way more than you paid for.

I see I have sparked some interesting feelings about this subject. :) I understand it is "just" a watch, but the 2 factors that motivated me to think about this and eventually post about it is (1) I am not rich by any means, so spending this kind of $$ on something makes me want to take care it it even more - perhaps to the obsessive level and (2) I have had this watch for less than a week, so yes, probably after the newness wears off then it wont be such a big deal for me.

The cure for scratches? Get more scratches...

This has been worn pretty much daily for 4 years, the first few hurt, but after a while you can't see any of them.. unless there are some really bad ones.

I'm cheating a little with my new WG one though. I took the plastic off everywhere except the clasp. It will come off on it's first bath.

Because I use a wrist wrest on my keyboard, it elevates the wrist so that it's not on the desk. And I usually wear long-sleeve shirts.

I still manage to bugger-up the clasps anyway...
