New Member saying hello

Hi everyone,

I'm brand new to joining the forum and although while I've frequented some of the posts as an outsider in the past, this is my first post as a registered member. And so first off, I wantto say hello!

Secondly, I want to mention live in Southern California and excitingly enough and about to make my first Rolex purchase for my big 30th birthday. (Excited to pay the Los Angeles County tax on that...)

Anyhow, I'm sure this question exists in a prehistoric channel and has been asked by many, but I was wondering if I could get some opinions on which watches I should keep my eye on? So far I've been looking at the more entry level models, (OP39, New Air-king, and DJ 36). I'm really wanting to keep it around $7,000.

Some questions I have: Is it worth it to spend a few hundred more for other models, say the Sub? While the watches I'm looking at stem from $5,200-to $6,700, is the resell value abundantly more in one 1 watch vs the others? Any other enlightenment you guys can offer would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance and nice to meet everyone :)

Your gonna get a sports watch answer in that price-range......

Sub, Gmt, Exp etc.....

I like the DJ 36 if it fits your lifestyle. Jubilee band. Fluted bezel. Classic.

Look @ Explorer I, Explorer II, Submariner (date or no date), and OP. Being in LA there are tons of options for great sellers on this forum to save you money too while getting the full warranty.....the real challenge is deciding if you want 5 or 6 digit models I think.

Welcome to the forum.

I think you are on the right track, steel sports rolex is where your money should go for. My choices would be:

1) No date sub, this is the quintessential sports watch, a true icon and it will age great. Try on some 5 digit one ( pre ceramic) vs current models.
2) Explorer, imo, this is a great bang for buck watch, classic and it just works.

Something to remember is, all rolex are built like tanks, they will most probably outlast all of us.

Good luck and buy the one that makes you happy, not the "correct" and popular choice.

Welcome. I would go for the 114060 Submariner or save up a little more for the 116610.

Welcome!

I say sub. My first was a two-tone datejust with jubilee bracelet. I still have it and love it but nothing beats a sub.

You can't go wrong with a DJ, Explorer II, GMT, Submariner or Submariner date. It depends on what style/look you are going for. I would recommend that you consider starting with a 5 digit model as they are more comfortable to wear, in my opinion and they would be within your budget. Good luck and welcome to TRF!
