Long time lurker, first Rolex or "Rolex vs. B&R"

Every time you look at it think of how fortunate you are that you can afford it. Use it as a reminder to work hard and not mess up otherwise you will be in that cheap part of town more often minus a Rolex.

I would feel more guilty about wasting money on a Bell & Toss than wearing a Rolex. That is the watch that should be moved on.

You are new to ROLEX and so you feel like your Millgauss is really special and expensive, so it makes you feel like it is a big big deal.

Once you wear it for awhile and get used to it, it will be as average as your B&R.

Remember, it is your feelings that you are placing on other's around you. Trust me they are not feeling anything about your Watch...

It's not like it's a Solid Yellow Gold Rolex or a $150,000+ Richard Mille...and even those get worn like they are just-a-watch...

Couple of points:

No, you don't have to baby it, and...nobody cares what you wear. I have had a lot more comments on my fitbit than any Rolex I've ever worn.

That said, it's all about what makes YOU happy.

P.S. I like the looks of that Tourby.

Just hope you don't regret they decision. Milguass is very under the radar Rolex.

The only option is to not wear in places you are not comfortable and just wear for special occasions for few months. Slowly that'll translate into regular daily wear. It'll be years till someone notices your watch and in 10 years, you'll probably see few folks noticing than fingers on your hand.

Have you considered how reliable the Rolex is? With no disrespect it seems to me you just think it is a cliche brand and haven't fully appreciated why it garnered that reputation. Many positives to the Rolex brand, reliable, tough, timepieces. That milgauss is an incredibly tough automatic.

Thanks for replies. I never thought this thread would get so much attention. I have been wearing it in the rotation with my Tourby and various H2O pieces, although, I haven't worn the B&R since I got the Rolex. I think if it was 43mm or had a rotating bezel, I would feel differently.

I know how the OP feels -- the psychology of this is interesting! Here's a thought experiment, since someone mentioned the comparison to cars.

Say one day you arrive at that store in the less affluent part of town.

Scenario 1: You pull up in your 2-year-old $41,000 Volvo XC60, and step out of the car wearing your $39 Timex IronMan.

Scenario 2: You pull up in your 2-year-old $24,000 Honda CR-V and step out the car wearing your $8,000 Rolex Milgauss.

I wonder in which Scenario would you feel more self-conscious? If it's scenario 2, that would be despite the fact that you spent a lot less on the car/watch combo in scenario 2 than 1, the car is a lot more visible to everyone, and everyone knows the approximate values of the cars.

We're such a car culture, somehow folks don't mind if you spend a lot on a car, but watches seem to be a little different for no rational reason.

As a new rolex wearer (mind you, a modest SS DJ), I've seen that virtually everyone else doesn't care and doesn't notice.

One time an acquaintance that I only see rarely happened to be wearing a Sub. I noticed and remarked. His reaction was apologetic "it's 25 years old, it was my father's", as if he needed a good reason. I was only going to say "awesome!"...
