That's interesting. Now we know Breitling produced 222,650 watches in 2007 because they submit all of their watches for COSC. From memory it appears Omega has stepped up their submissions also, but Rolex is definitely the King of COSC.

Cmon guys, this is a meaningless spec, other than to estimate the numbers of the mass producers and general trends in the mechanical watchs. Of course, there are likely quartz COSC specs in here too, especially Breitling. Not all Breiling quartz are COSC spec either, last time I checked.

So Rolex COSC certs 14x the watches of Panerai? Is that good?

I guess as long as I buy a COSC Omega it's as good as a Rolex?

Oops, going to pass on the Lange Flyback Chrono, no COSC cert.

You're correct, although some Patek calibres are in fact COSC certified (e.g. the calibre 28-20/222 in the 10 day tourbillon and the calibre R TO 27 PS QR in the absolutely awesome 5016).

Yes, an imprecise comment on my part. Sorry. We've discussed this so often though I was speaking in general terms.

Here are the latest brands they play (all or in part) and those that don't play at all. Of course, shouldn't forget COSC is a Swiss marketing tool to support their industry, not watchmaking as a whole. If you make an awesome watch outside of the country forget it. Even more restrictive is the Geneva Seal. That's why Germany does the same thing and I believe Glashutte certs there.
Seiko often "smokes" the COSC spec but can't wear it.

Exemplar brands submitting to COSC
Among others, Bremont, Maurice Lacroix, Invicta, Baume et Mercier, Breitling, Chopard, Chronoswiss, Ebel, Enicar, Girard-Perregaux, Omega, Patek Philippe & Co., Rolex, Tag Heuer, Stowa, Ulysse Nardin, Vacheron Constantin and Zenith are brands that submit at least some of their movements for COSC certification. Audemars Piguet, Breguet, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, A. Lange & Söhne, and Piaget are among the expensive brands that do not submit their movements to COSC.

I totally agree with Matt on this one.

COSC is just hooplah in my opinion. The movements are tested un-cased. Is that realistic? And how difficult is it when Rolex gets it everytime, as does everybody who submits their movement to COSC?

I think that the JLC 1000 Hours test which is in-house, is more realistic, and generally, produces watches that are EXTRAORDINARY in terms of accuracy, which is not to be confused with precision, but that's another whole new kettle of fish.
