The vast majority...
It seems, and this is just and observation not a complaint , that the great majority of timepieces that I see on this forum are of the SS flavor.
I read on an earlier post that many have an aversion to SS/YG whereas that combination of metals is my personal favorite variety. I think it is because my wedding ring is YG as well as the rest of my jewelry and the SS/YG goes well with it. Not to mention that "nothing feels like gold". I must say that there are two and perhaps three future purchases that will be SS. The Sub, GMTIIc, and the third I am waffling on so I am not against SS. Far from it. I was just interested in what everyone's preferences were and why.

I love the simplicity and beauty of ss and I find it more understated than precious metals. I feel comfortable wearing ss and I dont think I would wearing gold - I would feel very self conscious.
Having said that the gold DJ looks stunning - but that one is currently beyond my means and again I would not feel comfortable wearing it. |

I personally feel really strange wearing a yellow gold watch, I prefer to fly under the radar and I think yellow gold watches scream.....look at me. I used to wear a yellow gold wedding band but last year me and me wife both switched to white gold, she got a complete new set which she absolutely loves. SS is great for everyday wear, you can dress it up or down, it is just perfect. I find that I even prefer the look of SS to yellow gold, but I also only wear tool or sport watches, it is just my style. I won't even wear a watch with polished center links, so gold is definatly a no no for me. Looks like I might be shopping for another brand if Rolex keeps going the direction it has lately.

I'm shallow. Chicks dig gold. I dig gold-diggers. Thus, I like gold. How many different ways do I have to explain this?

SS is less costly can be buffed out with scotchbrite pads or the like. Any gold goes to the watchmakers for R&R. SS links do not stretch as gold links do. So its cheaper, and easier to maintain and understated. My Sub LV only came in SS as does my Explorer II. Since the cobalt blue sub is available as a TT only, that may be the only gold content Rolex I may own.

I would be in that majority, beer budget and all. But hey, some of the Steel Professional models are far from "cheap". My family thinks Im nuts for getting the GMT.

I love my platinum Masterpiece Day Date.......The feel is awesome and heavy and platinum never wears away like gold, if it gets scratched the metal is "spread" rather than removed like gold. It should last forever!

For most of my life it didn't really matter if I liked gold or not; then I thought it too flashy and didn't like it (always though the TTs were nice though); now I think it's fine in the right watch worn in the right setting.
LOTS of different folks frequent the site. They all fit that are in one part of the above spectrum. Identify with them all and respect their views. Wish they all acted the same. |

I prefer white metals and I can afford stainless steel and as you might have heard, at Rolex, stainless steel is a precious metal.

I like TT on an Oyster. The gold color that Rolex uses and the lusterous SS looks great together.

I disagree. It's often a matter of personal preference. Yes, in some cases you might want something more expensive, but can not afford it. In other cases you might be able to afford something more expensive, but prefer the watch that happens to be less expensive. Of course I may be taking JJ's humorous post as serious.
