Mrs Van D taking me away for a surprise five day trip for my 50th in first week of August.
Early November it's a 15 night cruise from San Diego to Fort Lauderdale through Panama Canal. Couple of days in San Franciso before heading to San Diego.

This year:
Ski trip earlier this year in January to SLC resorts. Just got back from Las Vegas. Going back for work next week! Probably a NYC trip in July. After that, not sure, but may be going to Oktoberfest. |

My brother and I just returned from a 6000 mile ride from our homes near Lake Tahoe to the headwaters of the Mississippi River; then followed the Great River Road to New Orleans then back home.
Along the way, we stopped in at Yellowstone NP where we spent the summers of our youth. The place is still stunning and although some things change, there are also some things that won't change there for another 10,000 years. The Great River changes a lot from this..... to this..... to this..... to this..... Along the way, I found out a lot of stuff. Like I didn't know I had my own guitar shop in LaCrosse, WI. Or that I didn't have a permanent address..... One morning, my brother was riding lead and I see him slow down and he asks me over our helmet intercoms if I saw "that?" We make a U-turn and we stop along the side of the road and help this little hoodlum get across the road. We'd seen bunches of crushed turtles along the road; he didn't look like a family man so hopefully we did a good deed. I read that daveathall mentioned that he wanted to go to Gettysburg. It truly is an amazing place and I hope he gets there. 1100 miles to the southwest is Vicksburg National Military Park. We spent more time visiting there, than at any other place we visited. I was never a soldier so I don't have a reference, but I just can't imagine the lives those men must have led during that time. Well worth the visit. We made our way to NOLA and although I'm a diabetic, I had to partake of a little bit of this. We headed west from New Orleans towards home. As we went through Winslow, AZ; we stopped for a few minutes to say thanks to Glenn Frey for all of the great music for all the years. May he rest in peace. I love these trips but I'm always glad to get home. I have a beautiful, amazing wife who not only supports these types of shenanigans, she actually encourages them. I'm very lucky to have her in my life. She does not let grass grow under her feet and on several occasions while on trips together, we've almost missed our transportation because of "one more thing." I took this photo of a poster at the BMW shop in Cape Girardeau, MO. It represents how my wife lives her life, (although she rides horses, not motorcycles), and how she encourages me to live mine. I would encourage the rest of us to do the same. Oh, and by the way, OUR trip is back to Italy, Greece and Israel this fall.

All y'all (yunz : ) have quite a few wondrous trips planned.
Seeing the National Park placard above prompts me to post of our recent sojourn to New Mexico. We're thinking about visiting Salerno in the Fall

Headed off to Italy, Amalfi Coast, Cinque Terre and Firenze for my 50th celebration. My birthday is in June, but we prefer Italy in the fall.

Just got back from my honeymoon (15 days) to Prague and Croatia. Also planning a trip to the Lake of Ozarks for the 4th of July, Atlanta for Labor Days (for FSU v. Alabama), and Orlando at least once to go to Epcot Food and Wine.

Cool thread hearing others' travel plans. A few one- or two-night trips with the kids to the Jersey Shore. Probably a camping trip. Mohegan Sun and Atlantic City - casinos are our thing...and driving distance is nice. Also visiting family in Ohio.

Nothing fancy here. Took the whole family to NYC for Canada's Victoria Day (May 24) long weekend and did the tourist thing (Colbert, Project Runway, Brooklyn, Brooklyn Bridge, Flight Club, AD's, Central Park, Beretta etc). Walked +40k in 4 days.
Up north right now with my oldest daughter for our annual Musky Opener long weekend fishing tournament. Boys are working full time summer jobs and girls are in camps. Wife and I will take a week off to paint/spruce up the upstairs bedrooms. Going to take a few days in August to move the boys into their Universities. Will take extra long weekends in Oct/Nov to Musky fish with my buddies and/or visit the boys. I already miss those two week long road trips with all six of us packed into a van. Enjoy those crazy family vacations while you can.....the time sure goes by fast..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Lots of family time this year (beach, mountains, wedding in Nashville). Will try to squeeze another 3 day or 4 day weekend in here or there.
