Went to Baselworld 2017 event at Baltic Newcastle last night

Enjoyed the Goldsmith's Baselworld 2017 event last night.

Great event, staff were excellent at the venue plenty of Champagne, Cocktails, Peroni and Nibbles about.

Thought the event was very well organised and at last got to look at the Sky Dweller and New Daytona Ceramic's on the rubber strap.

I originally thought the new Blue SkyDweller would be the nicest SS of the three and then read a few comments about the Blue not being quite the same but to be honest I still thought the Blue was the nicest, followed closely by the White. The Blue really does pop! but incidentally the White looked really cool also.

I was actually a bit disappointed with the Black one, it just didn't quite shine like I thought it might and they were really well lit up under the carefully prepared lights.

To be honest though the absolute stunner was the White Gold Daytona C on Rubber Strap, that watch is truly stunning, its a bit out of my range at the minute but can honestly say the white gold which is embedded in the numbers on the ceramic dial is fantastic and I mean fantastic!!. It just stands out so much.

Really sorry I didn't get the pics, I had a beer in one hand, a brochure in the other and was juggling these whilst taking my own watch on and off to try them on.

They had a load of others there e.g. Platona, new Sea Dweller and Yachtmaster II. All nice and sparkly but like I said the lovely Daytona C was the class act, the other two gold and Everose look great also, but definitely the White Gold.

Sounds like a great time!

I agree the WG Daytona is the star of the 2017 lineup

1000% agree. There seems to be some debate about the merits of the rubber on the PM Daytona's on the forums, but personally, i love it. Virtually every single person (including me) who has seen it in person thinks it is amazing.

I was there as well.

I agree that the WG Daytona on the rubber band looked good, but I think it would look so much better on a leather strap or bracelet.

I was standing next to the case which contained the green dial Milgauss and it was getting a lot of attention.

I have to say that, for me, the nicest watch at the event was still the Platona. Quite a few people were wearing the new SS Daytonas, I saw both the white and black versions, and despite me being a SS Daytona fan, the new ones really didn't look very special to me at all in the metal.

They can be put on a leather strap, correct? The answer to this question may be the deal/no deal on me buying this watch.

I was told that you can fit a leather strap to the watch case, but the clasp used on leather straps is wider than the rubber band clasp apparently so the standard leather strap can not be fitted to rubber's clasp.

Agree! if there's one watch I'd want that night, it'll be WG Daytona.

It was really nice talking to some watch enthusiasts.

My wife was wearing her Silver Snoopy and a few people wanted to have a chat with her about it.

Having been to a similar event in the Midlands and probably tried on the exact same watches you did. There is a lot of excitement over that WG Daytona on the oysterflex.

I am not even a Daytona fan but I absolutely loved it, my other half was really impressed and is talking about buying it for herself.

I agree on a bracelet the WG Daytona would be immense, but then so would the price at no discount in the UK for a while.

The way in which the strap mounts the the clasp is totally different between the leather and Oysterflex not just the width.

Oysterflex mounts strap to clasp just like the bracelet models.

The rubber strap on PM watches does nothing for me. However, if I'm going to replace it with a nice alligator strap anyway, I'd rather replace a cheaper rubber strap than an expensive solid gold bracelet.

I have posted a few photographs, but agree, juggling and drinks do not lend themselves to iPhone pics.
