New Sea Dweller 43 redundant with DSSD?

How many CURRENT owners owners of the DSSD are planning on purchasing a new Sea Dweller 50th Anniversary?

I'm one, but am curious as to how many of you current DSSD owners will take the plunge?

I would imagine quite a few as the bracelet width and reduced thickness would be a welcome.

To me its closer to a sub c than a dssd in terms of redundancy.
Would i have both? No. But i would have a new SD and a DSSD before i would have a sub c and a new SD

You could argue that any second watch is unnecessary but if you want it, just buy it.

I did. The SD43 wears much smaller than the DBlue and both can coexist

They are two very different watches and love them both.

Would keep DSSD or sell and get SD50, but not keep both

I swapped from a SubC Date to the DSSD just a few weeks ago. So far I am very happy with how it wears, in fact I am delighted, and once on the wrist (properly fitted) you don't notice the extra weight. I've not really had any issues with cuffs fitting on my shirts either. I haven't seen the SD43 yet but from the photographs I've seen I don't like the cyclops. I must admit it is harder to see the date on my DSSD than it was with my SubC Date but I love the cleaner lines of the DSSD.

In the Submariner/Sea-Dweller line up I would only have one Submariner. The ND, Date or the Hulk. In the DSSD it would either be the DSSD-Blue or the SD43. I like the dials but everything does not need to be black. I currently own the Hulk and am waiting on the SD43. I have owned two DSSD in the past and before the release of the SD43 I had been considering the DSSD-Blue, but no more. Going to see how the SD43 works with the Hulk.

I would keep both my Subs (5 and 6 digit), my DSSD, my D-Blue and get a SD43. They are all unique in their own way.

I'm not sure, but I may be biased.
The SD43 is a very nice watch indeed and I always wanted a Red Sub but at the end of the day, it's very close to the DSSD in dimensions.
The thickness issue is insignificant as we are really only talking about what? Less than couple of MM in total????
In contrast the DSSD will always sit flatter on the wrist regardless of wrist shape as the Case-back protrudes less and it's relationship to the drop of at the bottom of the lugs is maybe just a little better on the DSSD.

I will always respect the fact that the DSSD is virtually a 100% technical exercise and form follows function.
I recall reading somewhere that without the Ringlock system it would've been another 2 mm thicker.

In contrast the SD43 is virtually a 100% styling exercise.

I suppose if Rolex hadn't released the D-blue I would definitely have added the SD43 to my humble collection to spice it up a bit.
But seeing as I am fortunate to have the D-blue which is much more stunning in the flesh than the SD43 I think I may as well pass on it as it won't add anything to my collection. It's really redundant to me.
I also prefer the curved Crystal.

I think I've just answered the question that's been churning through my own mind here

I guess it depends on your overall collection and what's in it...

I don't know if I have room for two sea dwellers. Understand there's significant differences in the two and I appreciate each for its own merits, but...just don't know if I could make that work.

SD43 wears smaller than a DSSD... Correct that it can be construed to be an oversized Sub, but until Rolex "fixes" the band on the DSSD to be more proportional, it will always be top heavy...

Yes.
Especially when you have them sitting around and not wearing them.
Servicing/repairing them can also be problematic

Me personally, I can't justify both. I prefer to keep my D Blue for the dial, no Cyclops, and king of depth rating.

D-Blue and SD43 are significantly different to mine eye, the DSSD and SD43 would be too similar to own both.

It would be the DSSD.

While the SD43 has retained is depth rating. It is a mystery to me why a company as conservative as Rolex would change so much on an iconic watch.

The SD43 seems lost. Does it want to be a Sub with its cyclops. Or does it want to be a DeepSea with its almost identical width.

Aesthically, I think the SD43 is very attractive. For me, it is no longer a true SeaDweller.

A similar situation is: Mercedes is changing up their G wagon after 40 years. To the overwhelming majority of G owners. The new G will not be a real G.

Speaking as a dive watch nut, absolutely not. Very different watches, which can easily coexist in a collection.

Quite different in many aspects. So if pocket wise you are deep enough then go for both. I already did so.
