Another Head Scratcher

Preface: Stopped by the jeweler/AD to pick up a pendant that Mrs. BC was having repaired. As readers/viewers of the TRF, we have all read accounts and/or seen posted pics of various Rolex models and some like the 'leopard Daytona' actually look better in real life than they do in various jpegs. In my particular case, I encountered a YM2 for the first time in 'real-life' and while it was a bit oversized for my tastes, the watch was absolutely stunning on its own accord.

Another customer at the AD happened to be wearing one while I was waiting for my wife's jewelry repair to be brought out and I just had to say, "Nice watch" to this particular wearer. He reluctantly acknowledged my casual compliment and a brief conversation arose. When I asked him if he was into sailing, he replied no and that he was a freelance writer. He then asked me what I did for a living and after I replied forest management, my curiosity piqued so I pursued the occupational topic a bit further and inquired as to whether he wrote blogs, books or worked for a publication.

He responded by saying that he wrote "romance novels" for men of a certain preference but quickly added that he himself was straight. After leaving the AD I thought to myself, while to each his/her own, is this possible?

I'm not sure how that's even possible. Maybe he's "curious" but never acted on it? Writing about his own fantasies?

Man, I'm not sure I would admit that to anyone if that's what I did for a living... not that there's anything wrong with that.

In any case, that's a really awkward conversation to have.

Apparently he is good at what he does to afford a YM2, or maybe a "gift" from one of his readers? lol.

My guess is his first hand inexperience causes him to use some guesswork to fill in gaps and the scenes he creates come across as experimental, which a lot of gay guys like.

This story has to be an absolute lie. I am sorry but no one in the world would have that type of conversation with a complete stranger.

Besides this, Paul's stories are credible.

With your flair for storytelling, I fully expected you to be the one responding reluctantly as a romance novel writer for men of a certain preference, as someone complimented you on your watch while you were visiting your AD.

That is certainly possible.

I do have a friend who works as a Ryan Gosling impersonator at gay events/bars. I don't know if he goes both ways but certainly gets more women than I do by an amount that is somewhat depressing lol.

I tend to support all of your posts.

This is stupid and inflammatory.

Too bad.

Just thinking. If I had ordered a second cup of coffee that morning, this particular exchange would probably never have taken place and thus no reportage of its account and/or any reflections of the peculiar vibe it rendered as an afterthought. But the essence of the TRF is that it has always been a reasonably open-minded 'show and tell' forum for grown-ups with various key insights offered along the way.

Seth/superdog: While I'm trying to comprehend your disdain for this OP topic, there's was definitely no inflammatory intentions on my part. I viewed the guy's occupation similar to that of a Hollywood script writer (except that he was cranking out boilerplate paperbacks for a target audience). As Kyle89 mentioned, maybe those literary efforts and royalties paid for his YM2. If this self-proclaimed author was being genuinely upfront, what a vivid imagination he must have.

There are certain things this forum deems impermissible to talk about. This should be one of those things. IBTL. This garbage is tiresome.
