On Becoming an American

Dear fellow TRFers,
A meaningful and solemn event is coming my way.
Tomorrow morning at 8:30 CST I will be pledging allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. I would very much appreciate your help in deciding what watch to wear.

Another vote for DJ. I was wearing mine, and it makes the watch even more special for me.

in the spirit of originating somewhere else then becoming American, I vote for the Speedy. You are taking your oath on July 20th, the anniversary of the moon landing, so this is a no brainer, IMO!

Wow you are going from US to UK? Amazing really.
I went from France to Ukraine, but am not a citizen, just have permanent residency there for life, what's funnynis that I was in a way an illegal immigrant there for 4 years, had the right to 3 moths every 6 months, but was there 11 months a year. They didn't care and after I was married and my son born there, he is french and ukrainian, immigration was making me my residency, I go out and they tell me at the airport that I won't be able to come back, they didn't care about the fact I was being legalized. Luckily the boss of immigration was a friend of my inlaws, she waited for me at the airport, and when I gave my passport the woman told me I couldn't come in, I called her and in 3 minutes the chief of border police came and told her to let me through. Many foreigners who had businesses and real estate got expelled and had a 3 or 5 year prohibition from coming back at that moment. Now I think they don't care since the EU opened them borders without visas...

Yes. Been here 6 years and both my kids were born here and this is all they know so its more for them than anything.

Being born here isn't enough though for citizenship and the process is not very straightforward but hope to have it sorted soon. Its not so much as giving up one citizenship as it is adding another. They only let you stay so long without being permanent resident/citizen.
