Lol, I agree...
just had a gourmet Bison burger at Ted Montana's last week and it was close to $20 with fries ... Even at that price point it's a little high but it's been a long time since I've had one so... I think it was worth it though , Bison meat is not offered just anywhere or at any restaurant... Quality was there and very juicy ... Just right if you ask me... but more than $20 for a premium burger meal I think is a little over the top !!!! |

Not banned at all. I agree. Some places have amazing food, and if the quality and/or quantity deserves it, a premium is in order, but when you go to a steakhouse and see 8oz Angus RibEye for $75us (happened to me three times) it is scary!
One of the best hamburgers I had cost $18us. It was worth it, with great beef quality BUT easy on ingredients. Quality was there. But when they add everything in the refrigerator plus half pantry and charge you $40us for that....really??? Don't get me wrong, I have had magnificent meals in NY, and worth every penny; but some are just outrageous. |

I tend to agree whenever I have ordered a burger in a restaurant it has always been so thick I have had to dismantle half of it and eat it separately. I thought the point of a burger was that you could eat it as it comes

I agree. When I want a burger, I want a good old American Burger. I'm flexible on most toppings but Leave the truffles, foie gras, and artisanal cheese off the burger.
Don't even get me started with the Kobe burgers and sliders.... |

I've been "over it" it for a while now, the backlash was inevitable. Bottom line is a good burger is a transcendent thing, like a great pizza! They are both examples of restaurant gestalt, the creators of these exclusive, limited offerings in most cases have produced something special, but at the end of the night you get the bill and you've spent the equivalent of a small steak on a ground beef patty sandwich... that's not always perceived as a value or a lucky break when there is no financial benefit to stepping it down. So here we are JMHO but at then end of the day, no matter the ingredients or the source of the beef, it's just a burger!

Once a month I buy a pound of 80/20, drop it into a smoking hot cast iron skillet, squish it flat with a spatula, flip in four minutes, remove in three more, and serve it on a slab of toasted black pumpernickel. The best $4.49 I ever spend on a meal.
Burger joints? Not usually. I cannot control myself around potatoes prepared in the French fashion. |

Newly discovered fancy burger joint down this way... will take their regular cheesy burger, dip the whole thing in batter then deep fry it.
According to their menu anyway. (I got heart palpitations just reading it) |

I love a good burger at a restaurant but I tend to agree with this sentiment. There are great fast food burgers like In-N-Out, Shake Shack and Five Guys that put out an equally delicious product at a 1/3 of the price.

I don't buy overpriced gourmet burgers, it's still just mince a low cut of beef. I'll pay for marbling on a rib eye or fillet but that's it.

I'll time it next time, but the Pounder (served open-face with salt & pepper) takes a little longer than a standard Half.
I'll tell ya this, though. The shirt I'm wearing at the skillet? Right in the warsh after that. I smells like a short-order cook after frying up my burger. |

We love to try and visit new places. Sometimes on a weekend we'll google for a good burger joint and go visit a new town and give it a shot. Its hard to beat the simplicity of 5 Guys.
We have had great success with local mom n pop diners and small restaurants.
