Would this bother you - or do I have OCD?

I have been enjoying my new GMTIIC for a few weeks now, but as the date changed to 7, I noticed a small speck on the date wheel. Not very obvious, but I can tell that it is there. Of course I inspected the watch in detail when I purchased it, but never thought to go through the dates.

Would this bother you to the extent that would cause you to bring it in? I tried to capture it in a photo. The speck next to the 7 is not from the cyclops or the camera, it is a blemish on the date wheel directly. Has anyone seen this before?

Other than this, everything has been great. I am still struggling to get the bracelet just right. Removed another link and have the clasp at the last setting, but it is too tight with the half-link, and a little loose without. Oh well, maybe I am OCD?? At last the accuracy has been within 2-3 secs over 7 days.

Whaddya think?

It's not a question of "bother" to me.

There is something foreign in your watch. You don't know what it is or how it got there.

Could it get into the movement?

It needs to be removed.

Do you have OCD? Yes
Should you bring it in? Yes, because you have OCD.

Having a watchmaker remove that speck of dust is pretty work intensive. The watchmaker will basically have to cherry pick the whole movement out, remove the date wheel, clean off speck, and then put everything back together again. This whole process could get more specks of dust into the movement. It also has the potential to put a little "wear" on the watch.

In the end, its your watch and there is nothing wrong with expecting perfection on a $7000 timepiece.

if mine had that problem i would defiantly have it fixed. at this price point there is no excuse for that. my seiko monsters don't have anything like that so my gmt2c certainly shouldn't don't you think?

Take it in or you'll never be happy. OCD maybe, but we all have that here so you are in good company. Bottom line is for 7K it shouldn't have a problem like this.

This is why JJ uses a loupe before buying.....

I would leave it as it is, because that small speck would not bother me. For one, I would not notice it unless I used a loupe and since I don't spend time pouring over my watch with magnification, I would never even know it was there. It's on a date wheel and is not sitting there on the face staring at you more than once a month. I also would not waste time taking it back to the AD because I don't want them opening it up and disassembling it in any way without some real problem. The possibility of showing some kind of marks or wear from them messing with it is not worth it. And sending it back to have Rolex deal without outside of normal service is silly.

But mainly, I'd get over it because I'd hate to think that something this insigniifcant could make me that anal and obsessive.

I would bring it in too. Imagine the day you have to sell it... and then you have to decide how you're going to tell the buyer. I would not buy it as is..

As one post mentioned that idea of more dust stirred up in the process, look at it as character. After you get a few scratches on it, you'll see and appreciate the beauty in this piece of personal history you wear daily. But, if it bothers you beyond...take it in and have your AD go through it--you will be without it for a while, though.

Just my .02

Ciao!

Besides the speck being aesthetically disturbing, the little bugger could dislodge and get into the machinery. I'd pull out the crown to make sure the date wheel doesnt move, and leave the watch at home till I could get it back to the store that sold it to you. You know how it goes. If the watch continues to advance the datewheel, the day you take it in, the speck won't be there.
