Not sure how they come up with this numbers. As far as I know, Rolex NEVER release an official sale numbers to anyone.
Hmm maybe Jobs was intouch with Wilsdorf and pass the numbers? Who knows

I tried the Apple Watch for a while... I was not a huge fan. It became a source of frustration for me with all the constant beeps and notifications being doubled up on my phone. It also didn't work in the situations where I expected it to - for instance to track my weight workouts, I would work out for an hour and it would show me as having burned zero calories. Plus, if I forgot to charge it, then I was SOL.
In comparison, every time I look down at the watch I'm wearing, I smile and feel a sense of satisfaction. The best of both worlds is wearing on one wrist, a Fitbit Charge 2 on the other - you get fitness tracking superior to the Apple Watch without the notifications that make you feel like you're chained to your phone 24/7. |

Nobody is forcing you to buy one. You don't like it doesn't mean it's trash. That's my point, people here likes to troll AW, sort of having a superiority complex, but it is selling, apparently a lot of people likes it.

They're probably laughing at the people who purchase thinking it's an actual watch My perspective is that just because it's selling well, doesn't make it a real watch. It's a small, smart phone/device with a FINITE life span. You can service a mechanical watch such as Rolex to last several lifetimes (even replace a crappy Quartz movement, every so often). The Apple watch has a case that is not meant to last more than a cell phone and microchips designed to last only a handful of years maximum. It's wearable technology. I mean if I take my MacBook Pro, attached it to a belt or some other strap on my wrist, display the clock app, does that make it a watch? I think not |

A smartwatch is a gadget, and as such, has its place.
On the other hand, a fine watch is a potential heirloom.

You'll have a new one at that point. With how often we buy new Rolex's, what a few hundred bucks every year to get the latest tech.
I'm almost in my 30's, and I couldn't agree more. It's annoying. Nothing worse than idiots driving and texting though.

Interesting thread. Its great to poke fun at the Apple Watch (I'd never wear one) but a brief glance at the staggering decline in Swiss watch exports should give us all pause. It's basically the quartz crisis all over again. Except of course this time the other guy could just buy the entire Swiss watch industry.

Not saying it's trash, just another gadget to tie you even more to your phone, already put my phone off a few hours a day not to be bothered, parents are dead, school is 3 minutes walk and the director is a friend who knows where I live, I regret the good old days of the answering mashine in your home and nothing on you, really I do, my TV isn't connected to any channel, serves for DVD's, PS4 and that's it, so yeah maybe at 46 I am old fashioned, but these things are really not for me, and I don't consider them watches but gadgets that will last 2-3 years before you need to get the new one, Apple is smart, their products are obsolete or don't work quite rapidly. Love the ipad though...

I do think Apple Watch has and will continue to affect the lower end of the watch industry ... basically amything under a 1000 usd. But here's the thing... Apple Watch was a gateway drug for me to high end watches. I had no idea about how beautiful and amazing these micro works of art were. So here I am a couple years after my Apple Watch 1.0, and I now own one A. Lange & Sohne watch, and another on order. No way that would have happened w/o the Apple Watch.
In short, I think the high end watches like Rolex, omega, jlc, ap, and so on will be just fine. And they may even see a bump in business over time as people rediscover wrist art. But the lower end brands in Swatch group and the like of Citizen and Seiko will take a hit. |

Seems to me that many people (not all) buying the AW were unlikely to buy any traditional watch let alone a high-end mechanical watch. The AW goes well beyond a simple watch, so maybe that's appealing to a lot of people? Scanning your boarding pass bar code from your AW is cute, but is that really useful? I can't wait for the forst time I see somebody saying "Can you hear me now" to their wrist!
I had a Fit Bit for about two weeks before I jettisoned it. Not really my thing. I can't even imagine all the beeps, vibrations and ADD-induced behavior having to look at your AW all day being afraid to miss something. At what point do we become saturated with all this? I love to regularly go fly fishing in remote areas in Colorado where "gasp" there is no cell service. I can't tell you how much I enjoy the tranquility..... |

As somebody who owns both a Rolex and an Apple Watch they both have their places. In fact I just ordered the replacement for my original Apple Watch this morning as I wanted LTE on it so I could leave my phone at home at times.
I enjoy being unplugged and off the grid, and for those times I wear my Rolex, but during the week I live a busy life. I run a company, I have 3 kids, I run a podcast, I have a full calendar. Pulling my phone out all of the time, or firing up Outlook on my MacBook Pro isn't always something I want to do. My watch does that for me. It notifies me when I should leave for an appointment, assists with GPS when I'm driving my Jeep with a CarPlay head unit, and allows me to screen calls when my phone is in my bag or pocket. I love my Rolex, and it's a part of my life. However, when I'm wrenching my Jeep in the garage or working in the garden I'd rather not wear it. What's interesting is that I was more interested in the Apple Watch series 3 than the iPhone this time around. I have a 7Plus right now and the X didn't blow me away as much as it could have. I'll wait and read reviews of it and then weigh my options at some future date. But I would love to NOT carry a phone, or a wallet around and simply use my watch for everything during the week when I'm running around. |

For you all who own an apple watch and use it for exercise, don't you need to wear the AW all the time to get the maximum health metrics and benefits? All that heart metrics sounds cool but if you only wear it for an hour a day you don't get the benefits of all those metrics. Is this correct? IF yes, why wouldn't one just wear a Fitbit Charge 2 on one wrist as its just a band not a watch, and a Rolex on the other? Thoughts?
