Which reference? thoughts?
Hi all,
I recently came across this watch and was hoping that I could get your opinion regarding condition and authenticity. The dial seems to have been redone and the "oyster perpetual" font does not seem to be lined up with the ROLEX above it. The crown has clearly been replaced. The case is showing a lot of wear and the gold is worn off in some places with a flat gold colored and silver metal underneath. It keeps time but makes makes an ugly sound while winding. I really like the look of it. Do you think it is worth getting fixed up? Thank you. |

5506.
The giveaway is that it is stamped inside the case back. Gold-filled Air-King with steel back. |

Poor re-dial, case is rough, and the movement has been driven hard...the knocking will be a loose rotor and worn rotor pinion.
It's ok as a beater, but would be prohibitively expensive to restore fully. |
