Matte dial 16660 acquisition
I had the pleasure of picking up this beauty from the second owner a few days ago. Serial is around 7.3 million dating it to 1982-3, purchased in 1985 and has the transitional double crown case back. I really dig the modern sizing and vintage look of the matte tritium with the 'amber' pearl. Another plus it has been recently serviced (with receipt) and came with box and papers!

Awesome pick up. The 40mm SD is still one of my all time favorites. The Matte dial looks GREAT!!! What a perfect daily wearer.

I am actually mistaken - my case back has the one crown, with the words 'rolex patent' which was later replaced with a double crown case back without the reference to the patent (i believe)

Just an FYI in case (no pun intended) anyone is doing a "single crown, Rolex patent" case-back research. Mine is a 8.0 million series.

Nice!
Judging by the lug holes, that case is unpolished. |
