A lot of people will not take checks. Cash talks BS walks.

Police have to do more than suspect, for forfeiture, they have to prove you are committing a crime and that the crime allows forfeiture.

I always carry precisely 17 $100 bills or as I refer to them - lighters. All gentlemen know a crisp $100 set ablaze is the only way to spark your stogie of choice.



Just kidding - no cash here. Debit card and one credit card only unless I know in advance cash is required.

I no longer need that much in the pocket - but 15 years back I did keep $20K in my race trailer because...well things come up, as Mon said. One guy once bought a replacement roller chassis just to race after balling up his own car in qualifying.

Not kept all in one place, 5K in the 4 corners of the trailer - sometimes went through 5K in a weekend if I was particularly unlucky at the track. Tires, parts, etc.

But my first crew guy was an experienced racer and had sage advice. One day, he said, you’re gonna screw up - it just happens. Your off-track agricultural excursion is gonna cost you and cost the other guy a few thousand.

Didn’t happen for a couple of years - but finally it did. I tagged a guy who had gotten inside me but I didn’t see him - shoulda seen him - but didn’t.

So I visit his paddock. I had raked the LF and driver’s door. He’s not happy; anger is only barely contained - but he’s a sportsman. I asked what’ll that set you back? $2K says he; I hand him 20 Ben Franklins and say “I’m an idiot and I’d feel better covering it”.

Didn’t hurt when the Stewards called me in to understand what the H3LL I was up to. “I made restitution says I, and won’t make the same mistake again”. Kept my competition license from Probation.

So, yes cash can make a difference.

being based in Asia cash is king here.... in saying that i dont carry more than a couple of hundred dollars at a time for fear of getting mugged or robbed.
I do keep decent backup in my safe just in case and i usually have a mixture of different currencies for the countries i frequent, that way im not rushing looking for a atm or money exchange when i land and can usually get in a taxi to my hotel.....

Same style for me. No cash only cards in UK. On holiday GBP and also USD (universally accepted in most places I frequent) and whatever local currency for bits and pieces where card won’t do.

some people like cash. I don't get it. My father always carries a seriously big wad of cash. It makes him look like a drug dealer, but he prefers it. Its weird to me.

Well I could start with a situation I had in Frankfurt Germany in 1966.

During that time I went down there 2-3 times a month to purchase cars from the GI's stationed in and around Frankfurt.

This particular time I was hoping to find a Mustang Convertible as it was one of the hottest car of that era.

I wasn't able to locate one in my usual spots outside the PX or Wiesbaden and Kaiserslautern but had one last card up my sleeve.

At that time the "galant ladies" cruised around Kaiserstrasse in cars picking up customers.
I stood on the corner waiting and here comes a white 65 convertible which I of course flagged down.

I eagerly entered the vehicle and started the usual negotiations except this time for a package deal.

We came to a mutual understanding and went to her place to finish the deal.

After successfully completed the first part of our arrangement I drove away with a 65 Mustang convertible.

This is of course just one of hundreds of stories I have and if you need to hear more you would have to wait for my book to come out.

To add to the thread Japanese people still carry cash so I do too. Some places here still don't accept cards.

Hey Mon ... I'll join you on that one - made a few deals myself on "circumstantial opportunity, right place at the right time", primarily used stuff, salvage, autos, horses and related tack, tractors, estate buyouts... so many instances where cash is king on the spot. Don't have to travel back roads to see chances to trade, either. Coming from a background where one has to be resourceful to generate extra moola, there is no advantage to being monocular or hesitant about jumping on a negotiation. Plus, I like to have ready cash to help people depending on situation.
So .... I could contribute a chapter or two, if you'll let me.

I don't like cash at all.. Firstly i feel oncomfortable to carry a lot of cash( sometimes for some reasons i do or did)) But don't makes me happy !!!
Secondly, i look ''suspicious'' when i get angry very very soon, so if they will check me, i would have to explain a lot.. And i do not like that either...
and i guess i will be even more agressive when i wear a lot of cash in my pockets as i got suspicious myself for other people that try to rob..

He gave an answer but it was hardly answering the question.

Having 5-10k on you at all times is so far out of the realms of normality that unless you're dealing drugs its a legitimate question to ask.
If the reason is "I like peeling off hundreds from a big wad of bills to impress people" thats a perfectly fine answer and at least it's an explanation.
