Not sure that I agree with that. I think the lady DJ itself accounts for half the sales.

That is what we all have to buy in 2018, so the guys with pencilwrists is this years winners.

I would dare to say many are already hurting even before the holiday shopping season judging by the many images posted here of empty display cases.

There's a thread in WUS (114060 Rumour) mentioning this thread.

https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?url...e_pid=45171637

Christmas holiday shutdown?

New movement?

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=583078<b......

The.following statement from Rocko53 scares me :

quote
In 3 years time if you want a ND SubC you WILL be buying it in WG.
I didn't make this stuff up, I was told by a Rolex employee at the poolside bar in Noumea, New Caledonia.
unquote

What do you guys make of that? Is this the end of professional models in SS? Is Rolex going PM only? Does that even make economical sense for Rolex? Not wanting to sound apocalyptical here, but are we all "condemned " to buy DJs and OPs if we want to stick to SS from now on?

I don't know about you guys, but I'm starting to like the SS DJ41 even more :-p.

SS Professional line does not account for almost half of their sales.
If you include TT and PM, maybe then it is closer, but even that is a stretch. The TT/PM watches aren't included in this cutdown though.

In Europe, Rolex will send you a PM Sub as a special delivery, outside their normal monthly shipment, if you ask for it (they did this to me).

And again - it will hurt dealers, but not Rolex. Rolex makes more profit from a DJ41 than from a Sub.

OP is a line of watches or model name? Every watch has OP on it and if it doesn't have a name, it is just called OP.

It is confusing a bit.

But Oyster Perpetual is a description that has perhaps outlived its usefulness. At one time Rolex made watches that were neither Oyster nor Perpetual alongside Oyster (no perpetual) and Oyster Perpetual.

The ladies cocktail watches had a plain case and manual wind movement. The plain Oyster had a waterproof 3 piece Oyster case and a manual wind movement. The original Daytona was such a watch.

Finally, the waterproof self winding movement models were designated Oyster Perpetual. Which is how all Rolex branded watches are constructed now - Cellini notwithstanding.

So Oyster describes the case. And Perpetual describes a self-winding movement.

There is a model designation for the entire OP lineup, though. The watches are named “Oyster Perpetual __________” (fill-in the blank with names like Datejust, Day Date, Submariner, Explorer, etc.)

And that last one that appears to have no name? Go look at the Rolex website...
They are named Oyster Perpetual 26, Oyster Perpetual 31, Oyster Perpetual 34, Oyster Perpetual 36 and Oyster Perpetual 39. So the case size replaces the names like Datejust, Day Date, Submariner, Explorer, etc.

Hope that helps some.

Keeping quiet but did not want to be left out of a 28 page thread. My source for Rolex news died a few years back, so any comment from me is pure speculation. I have zero idea of what Rolex is going to do.

Just going to enjoy my watches and if one comes out at Basel that intrigues me, I guess I will figure out a way to get it.

I haven't read the whole WUS thread, but the original post is on a fundamentally different topic from Gerardo's. Twelve pages later, the OP actually cites this thread as support for his initial post in an "I told you so" manner, but nothing here says the 114060 is going PM only.

A poolside bar chat certainly adds cachè to the comments about the Sub going WG only. It should have always been made of a noble metal. It being the noblest model at Rolex.

Between the Sub & DJ, Rolex has excelled and topped all other Swiss makers.

Hi all,

Brand new member- first post! I’ve been lurking around the forum and following this thread with interest as I recently started my search for my first Rolex (ND SUB 114060) after owning a number of other watches, and was really keen to gather as much information as I could prior to my purchase (pursuit!).

Unfortunately my search started properly just as rumours of shortages / production restrictions with the Professional (sports) SS lines started to bubble.
After much research and deliberating over the new vs SH route, and seeing the premiums being charged for grey / SH, I called a number of ADs to request being put on their waiting lists in the middle of January.
Of the 15 AD’s I called, none had any in stock unsurprisingly, however I was put on the waitlists for 12 of the 15 ADs I called (3 of the other’s lists were closed to new names for all professional models). I was advised to expect a wait anywhere from 3 months to 3 years depending on the AD I spoke to! With all this in mind, I’d resigned myself to a very long wait, and fully expected to not see a ND Sub for a few months minimum and probably not prior to the next price increase in the U.K. (whenever that may be)...

Then, last night out of the blue, I received a call from an AD that had taken my details to say they had just received a ND Sub with their latest delivery, and was I still interested!
As you can imagine, I very quickly responded that YES I was still interested and picked my new watch up today, no less than 2 weeks after ringing around to be added to wait lists!
Now, I may have just gotten very lucky, however hopefully this shows that even in the extremely restricted UK market at present, professional SS watches are trickling through to the ADs and can be secured without too much of a wait if you’re lucky.
Interestingly, the AD did say they too were seeing far fewer SS sports models through their doors at the moment, so I guess it’s a case of right place, right time, and possibly wanting a model with slightly smaller waiting lists than others.

Just thought I’d share to add to the conversation. Good luck to all those waiting....

If Rolex does this, that’d be a HUGE insult to their entire heritage.
The modern ND Sub is a homage to the watch that single-handedly made their brand legendary.
This was before they were shiny jewellery, when they were just damn good tools. They shouldn’t reincarnate a legendary stainless steel tool watch in solid gold. That would be sacrilege of the highest degree. :

This is the kind of "I heard" rumor that makes many of us so skeptical of "I heard" rumors. It also makes it harder for credible reports to be taken seriously. The idea of a PM-only ND Sub is ridiculous, and I just can't take it seriously. If it is actually true, Rolex is really shaking things up.

Well, this is certainly an Uber-thread which has taken on a life all of its own! I thought it had faded away a few days ago and now stronger than ever. Next stop is 100,000 views or 1000 posts, whichever comes first. Seems to have drifted off topic and more of a catch-all now. Will check back in a few days. Cheers!

I like to think it’s ridiculous too, but it’s worth mentioning that Rolex saw no problem with making the current Pepsi GMT (another stainless steel icon) exclusively in gold. I wouldn’t put it past them to do it again.

Well, they at least know how to keep us interested......I’ve been seeing a slow tick at both my local ADs. Got two in the last year I wanted, I’d be afraid if I could walk in a buy whatever.

Looking forward to the next couple of months.
