Hey Guys and gals,

I know I might not post much here really (read more than anything), but I know in years past, Rolex shudders the production at the end of the year, and usually doesn’t restart until around Basel. Could this be what’s happening now? I have very dear friends that work for a very prestigious and storied AD, and all they understand is the usual furlough is in process.

Regardless though, I too am quite fortunate to have my wants filled (for the most part!)

Cheers friends

Not sure if that’s the case. At least not with the ss Daytona and Skydweller

After talking with a few AD’s who are family owned and been in business for Decades I am pretty confident that supply will be ramped up after Basel this year. They are already seeing SS stock trickle in.

I can totally see that. Dry the market so people would use their money on the new Basel models (at least those who haven’t already lost it to grey market)

Remember this thread is about Professional stock, not SS stock.

So according to the thread, we will have a hard time getting a gold/platinum GMT or Sub or SKyDweller or Daytona or Yachtmaster, along with their SS brethren. But we should have no problem getting a SS DJ41.

Rolex will greatly slow selling all these Professional PM watches that it makes lots of money on? Seems dubious.

Still waiting for the letter.
Meanwhile, we received a shipment of SS Professional series watches.
Hate to burst anyone’s bubble here but our firm hasn’t gotten any indication of shortages except in reality.
It’s business as usual for us.

This does throw some different light on the subject.

My AD has been advised to expect fewer incoming pieces in the professional line (compared to early and mid-2017). They have seen that happen since 4Q last year.

So it maybe this message is segmented to either geography or AD size? (measured by volume).

Just reflecting on your experience vs. some others.

Hmmmmmm business as usual??

Does that mean you have all SS models in stock?? because that’s what used to be the usual business!!

Or your AD was always hated by Rolex never got any ss models and now you continuenin the drought!!

There sure is better supply now with all the incomings but I wouldn’t dare to call it “business as usual”

Said it many, many times. Rolex works in misterious ways. Is the letter sent to all ADs? Some? Market? Sales volume? We will never know.

You got shipment of SS sports....good for you. I also saw some of my ADs receiving a big SS shipment last month. Does this mean they are shipping ALL professional line products (not only SS) to ALL ADs? No.

Me, I will keep sharing what i find.

Have a great week, TRF!

Few things

This could be a selective letter to only certain ADs

It could be also be them just keeping ADs in line and not for them to get hopes up if production is slow

When Swatch Group take over Rolex management, it would make sense that they would retool the professional line.

I just had a phone call with Just Tom and he confirmed this as well. He saw the letter from his AD.

Rolex hasn't the goal to "sell more" - nobody cares about profit, it goes to the foundation. They care to hold up the brand value - and for that this is a great move!

Almost 1000 responses. Paul must have been getting more and more gutted. I think we should open a tribute-thread for him and try beat this one.

And that doesn't make sense either; even non-profits need money to operate.

Rolex is definitely a brilliant marketing house. Look at all the hype and drama created by a piece of paper. Now the ADs will have "proof" to show their customers. LOL. Genius...

Maybe the "letter" was just a leaked rumor to pump up demand?

To be fair, Gerardo, you did say this when starting this thread:

Quote:
Originally Posted by GerardoG View Post

The original information you presented was all-inclusive: all ADs were receiving the letter, and the production cutback would affect all professional-line models. Now, in the face of reports to the contrary you're saying the letter may not be sent to all ADs, which is a contradiction of the information you were provided, assuming you reported it correctly. You can understand why, in light of your first post, someone working for an AD who has not yet received the letter might want to take issue with that part of your reporting.

It also now appears as though you're saying that because ADs aren't receiving all sports models, that's evidence of the claim that production of all models is being cut back. Those are two different things. Am I reading you correctly?

I appreciate you reporting the information you receive, and encourage you to continue to do it.

An AD I strolled into also received a shipment last week (smaller one) and also had a decent selection of watches. High volume prominent dealer.

Is this thread still active? Ha I think it’s safe to say that the best answer is time will tell. Letter or no letter it’s a weird time for Rolex. I think a lot will be revealed when we see the current state of things after Basel 2018.

CONFIRMED news regarding the professional line

When one market’s demand overheats for whatever reason - don’t be a buyer. As this applies for Rolex, too, I’d be looking precious metal DJ & DD vintage if you’re a collector.

Yes I believe the patient is feverish. But if I watch financial markets globally, maybe the predicted 5-10% correction will dampen demand for the professional models. Rolex may be reading the tea leaves correctly. Sort of like buying downside insurance by keeping inventory slim.
