Did TSA possible open your bag? Was there a slip left inside?
Chances are they forgot to put the cover back on. Feel your pain... |

There have been a number of videos, circling social media, of baggage handlers throwing cases around, breaking into cases and looking for something to steal. I was in shock......... at how so many people “didn’t” expect this to have been happening since the dawn of commercial flights. My life expectancy of a suit case is 8 flights, any more is a bonus. And I would “never” put anything expensive in it. My opinion would be that someone actually tore off your plastic cover and had a look inside. Being such an expensive case, one would assume that the contents would have something worth stealing. I’m sorry for the loss, but, unfortunately, I feel that anyone with such an expensive case is advertising their belongings to be open to abuse.

LV luggage and you fly with livestock ? Not even NetJets ? Wrong man..all wrong. I like how this forum sometimes is pure display of human smallness.

Airline damaged my new lv suitcase..
I can understand expensive carry- ons where you have control of your bag but luggage that gets checked its just plain old samsonite for me!

That's why I will never buy a fancy or nice bag to check. Have had enough ruined to learn my lesson. Now it's Briggs and Riley and they are durable and take a beating well. Sorry and know it stinks but that's what happens with checked luggage.

maybe im weird, but it wasn't until after i saw some well seasoned travelers with Rimowa bags that were all beat to hell, that i actually wanted one. Some nice luggage looks great all beat up. LV probably isnt one.

I no longer check bags at all. Usually bring a tri-fold garment bag and a large duffle. Fits everything I could possibly need, and never has to leave your sight. The airlines just keep getting worse and worse and I just try to control every variable possible... sorry about the LV, that would drive me NUTS!

Isn't it a well known fact that airline luggage gets beat up?
If you opt to buy expensive luggage and find a scratch I think it's ridiculous to complain. |

Sure it hurts finding your luggage damaged, but at least for future travels you don't need to worry about the cover. Your LV will build up a nice patina over time and scratches will blend in. Kind a like the PCL's

LV luggage should never find it's way into the cargo hold of an airliner. Not sure I would even put it in a new Gulfstream for that matter. Why would anyone spend that kind of money on a suitcase that's nothing more than box with wheels is beyond me.

a scratch is okay but losing louis vuitton case cover and a broken off screw that damaged the canvas. thats excessive.if the case was on it it wouldve protected the scratches at the minimal. and i checked no tsa letter. kind of weird situation. |

There is a reason they call loaders "baggage smashers."

Hearing this is why my wife refuses for me to buy a LV travel set for her....she keeps saying that it will get destroyed and to save your money......guess she wins this one.

It would never dawn on me to spend that kind of money on a suitcase. But most of the population wouldn't buy an expensive watch either.

My brother in law used to handle airline baggage, the stories I've heard.... Now my wife and I just use B&R or Eagle Creek for checked stuff. We know it will get abused, but it's worth paying a bit more for luggage that will function correctly after the beating. Nothing worse than arriving at your destination, only to find that the bag won't roll.
Now my bro in law manages the lost luggage department for a different airline. Talk about a thankless job, just getting screamed at all day. Half the lost bags are legit, half of the stuff is what was left behind by passengers on the plane. FYI you'll never get that iPad back, virtually impossible to trace after the fact! |

I also use Rimowa, hard to destroy those. When they are getting dented and scratched, you can call it patina. :)

Airline checked - Briggs & Riley. Lifetime warranty including airline damage, repair or replace, but not often needed. Everything else...Rimowa, Tumi, TravelPro, Samsonite, Delsey (tried them all, and more)).. is a runner-up.
LV - 2 options; Carry-on or private jet. |

Wow. Expensive, name brand luggage for a commercial airline baggage hold? No way.
I must be a cheap, non status buying fool. Inexpensive, no name Amazon sourced luggage has never let me down. As previous posters have mentioned, use the money for more watches, cars, etc. I could be biased with air travel as I have NEVER traveled in any other class than Coach. Fifty five years old, traveling since the 60’s around the world in coach. Like I say, cheap b*stard. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Unfortunately LV checked luggage is a target. The baggage handlers associate LV luggage with money and are more likely to ruin your bag by purposefully mishandling it and/or opening your bag and stealing things. This has happened to friends of mine multiple times and this is the reason I will never buy the larger LV luggage that needs to be checked. I hope it works out and you can get something for the damages.

Whenever I need to check luggage, I use a Pelican case. Nothing is going to mess it up, and nobody will mess up any zippers or anything.
Also, when flying where laws reciprocate, I fly with an unmentionable. This allows me to get it pre-checked, and I get to put as many locks on it as I want. An added benefit, is that VERY rarely will an airline misplace my items. |
