My First Rolex Purchase | Any Advice Much Appreciated

Hello everyone, this is my first ever post on this forum and any advice/opinions will be taken on board.

I put a deposit on a 2016 no date submariner last week and will be going to finally see it and possibly collect it depending if I'm happy with everything. I'm based in a small town in Australia so I'm travelling to see this watch. Due to the market in Australia at the moment and limited supply been sold I''m paying a very high premium for this piece, it's from a well recongised second hand dealer.

A few things I want to ask:

Is it to late to negoitate the final price that was on the website? I quickly rushed into throwing a deposit down because they are selling like hotcakes and didn't want to miss out.

Secondly been my first rolex I really wanted to have a complete set, meaning manuals and outer white box/swing tag. Just because it would be nice and something Id like. I believe it only comes with the Green box and warranty papers, Apart of me feels like for the price I'm paying these are really nesscary for me and thats why I'm hoping I can get the price down because at the moment it seems abit extreme. PS: I will be paying cash for the remainder of the watch.

If say at Basel world Rolex they release an updated submariner, What do you think this would do to the market? Will this increase the value of the older ceramics or see the older submariner market been flooded with older ones because people are wanting to upgrade? Id hate to pay at the peak of the market atm and then it drops because they become more accessible from AD's.

I've tried on numerous Rolex watches like Datejusts and everything but never a SS Sub because there are never any for sale, So I'm hoping when I put it on itll give me a better idea as well. I've always really like the Sub and would like it to be my first rolex, but the things above are on my mind,

Please give me your opinions!

Hi

I am also new to posting on the forum but I have been reading for some time.

I don't know what arrangement you have with the seller but I would image by paying a deposit the price is agreed, pulling out would forfeit the deposit.

Assuming you paid the deposit knowing that the white box etc isn't included then I don't suppose the seller would be interested in negotiating. Once you have the watch on your wrist I am almost certain you will not be thinking about the lack of a cardboard box hidden in a cupboard somewhere.

All that said, the seller may be willing to discuss and I don't know how much the deposit you paid was and if its worth forfeiting.

Regarding the price, I wouldn't worry about it, think of it like buying a house, you don't know if the market will go up or down but you wouldn't keep holding off. The price is what the price is, so long as its similar to other watches on the market at the moment.

Historically if a popular model has been discontinued and replaced with a new model, the prices of the old models initially go up when the grey market has a heyday with crazy markups.
For example, Daytona pre-C values went up 20% immediately after it was discontinued, since the D500 sells at 80-100% markup.
Sub C is still a young model by Rolex standards, I doubt it will be replaced yet.

My honest opinion would be to remove your deposit and purchase a brand new Rolex that includes everything (box, papers, tags, etc.) I say this because my first Rolex was pre-owned and came without those things and it drove me nuts!

Your first Rolex purchase should be a special experience and not one that is filled with uncertainty and anxiety as mine was.

If you can, pay the premium for a brand new watch that is just YOURS. Please, I hope you can trust me when I say that it is worth every penny.
