Gifting a Rolex to an employee...

I just saw a OP for sale locally that had the clasp engraved with Hendrick automotive on it. Assume it was a service award that someone didn’t want. But it was newer and complete set.

My buddy just bought such a watch (114060) and box/papers from an employee who received the watch as a 10-year anniversary gift. It was engraved on the case back with the company logo. My buddy kept the watch as is.

Not recently ... last person I ever heard to receive
a Rolex was 1994 or 95 . A 30 year veteran of Publix Grocery stores in South Florida . |

I gave a 36DJ to one of my long time guys for 10 years of service when I sold the company. He made it possible for me to be in many places at once and to make the living I was able to make. I engraved the back with a personal note I thought appropriate. Wife had a nice box made and paper tags etc. Absolutely people still do this.

Very common practice in the oil and gas industry. Halliburton, Schlumberger, etc..I have seen them give many Rolex's as safety awards, retirement, special project completions and such.

My cousin owns a successful consulting business and a couple years ago purchased several watches for himself and his top guys while on a company trip to Vegas. Don't think he had them engraved but he let the people pick them out. Rolex and Panerai were the brands purchased. He also bought his wife a gold diamond bezel ladies president.

Just saw an ebay listing for a guy who was with Coca Cola for 25 years. It's a brand new DJ with an engraving on the back with the company name and employee name.

A friend of mine is a partner with a large automotive sales chain here in So Cal. Every year he gives a Rolex to the top 3 salesmen at his dealership. Just like the Olympics, he gives them the equivalent of a gold, silver and bronze version. No engraving.

My friend paid just $6500 for the no-date Sub. A bargain I thought considering its only defect was a company logo on the case back.

Years ago I worked for a large car dealership group and it was common place for a Rolex to be gifted as a sales award.

My 114060 has the oil company Schlumberger name engraved on the caseback, it was a 20 years service award if I remember correctly, I'm the 2nd owner.

I gave out Submariners to five key employees last year for finishing two buildings on time and under budget. I gave my architect/landplanner a TT DJ
for all of his hard work, and especially for dealing with all the issues with the City of Miami. Everyone was extremely shocked with the gift and appreciated the watches very much. I also gave out bonuses and told everyone that the cash only last so long but the watch will always be there as a reminder of all of their had work, dedication and commitment. |

.
In the 90's, when I was working for AMDAHL (an American company from Sunyvale, CA), there was a DJ TT given as a gift to employees after 15 years of work. Unfortunately I lived after 9 years ... and AMDAHL died some years after ... |

I dont like to keep around stuff I dont use.. although being gifted a fine timepiece is a classy gesture, if a wis is involved maybe some consultation would be wise before getting a bunch of airkings that will sit in shelves for the staff.
consequently when I meet people, often they jump out as "milgauss" or "yachtmaster" etc.. people depending on their appearance and personality.. even when they dont even wear a watch at all. if its a small enough company this type of personal touch may superseed any kind of engraving which |

I think they also engrave their logo on DateJusts that are for a lesser achievement. |

The AD in my small town gives all 10 year employees brand new Rolex watches. 6 of them so far.
