Someone Gave ME An Award!?!?!

I've been writing my newspaper column for two and a half years and this year, I have received what I consider a great honor. I am not a professional journalist. I don't get paid for my column. I do it for fun and have somehow become kinda well known in two towns here in North Carolina (Wilson and Rockingham).

This past Thursday, I was awarded a 2017 North Carolina Press Association Award for Lighter Columns. It's third place, the bronze medal so to speak, but it still a great honor to be recognized. Since I am not actually an employee of the paper, I was not at the awards assembly, but the editor of the Wilson Times is seeing that my award is framed and delivered to me.

This is quite humbling for a guy who throws together a thousand words of nonsense each week.

Since I have started this, I have gotten fan mail (from elderly women), hate mail (from hipster doofuses) and now this.

If you are interested in reading the column, PM me and I will give details where you can find them on the internet. They are mostly Andy Rooney type columns, with an occasional foray into actual journalism. I still can't believe the statewide press has recognized me for my work.

I wrote the newsletters for my golf club for over 5 years so I know it's not easy to come up with meaningful and interesting content on a regular basis. Congratulations!
