I think outside of the hardware (tear downs of iPhones are mostly Samsung anyway including the 'A' processors. Also, everyone knows that ALL camera sensors are Sony), so it comes down to the two competing on the software front/experience.
I'll admit that Apple's homegrown applications are best-in-class. You can seamlessly shoot some video, open the video up in iMovie, make a few edits, add some music, and share it in less than 15 minutes. And iTunes is also a service that is much better than Google Play. But honestly, outside of this differentiator at least IMHO, the Samsung hardware is by far way better than any iPhone produced. And again, the iPhone is almost all Samsung to begin with. So marketing and loyalty and myth plays the biggest role when it comes to Apple vs. Samsung. Personally, I'd love to own both! They both have their strengths and weaknesses.

My wife just upgraded to the Samsung S8 so I may pick one of those up to replace my aging S6 in a few months when the prices drop on them. My son has an iPhone 7. He's extremely happy with it. |

On-the-other hand, I ended up selling my iPad(s) and purchased a Surface Pro 4 i7 and couldn't be happier with the product and experience. I have the power of a personal PC and the convenience of a super fast tablet. I highly recommend exploring other options if you're ever looking to upgrade into the 2-and-1 tablet arena.
