Doesn’t adding a diamond bezel take away the functionality of the watch? I keep seeing Rolex GMT II watches with the ruby and diamond bezels and find it confusing.

I used to use mine all the time traveling from Australia to Europe/USA, it really is a simple and useful feature. If you are travelling less than 3 hours in time zones I.e. across a continent) does not make sense but when out by 14 hours etc I found it very valuable, for a pilot it always made sense which was what it was designed for.

I wouldn't call it completely useless. Let's say a nice looking woman asks what time it is, you answer "quarter past diamond" and then show her the watch and whisper "yeah baby it's a rolex..."

In my previous (and possible return to) career I did a lot of travel, albeit almost all in the US, I am attracted to the functionality of the GMT and its history. If I buy one, it’s to use it as it was designed. With that said, I own 3 Speedmasters (Pro, Triple Date and Broad Arrow Olympic) and never use the timing function. I suppose that makes me either a snob, hypocrite or both.

I can’t lie, it is a gorgeous timepiece. My first Rolex was a stainless DateJust (1603, I think)I had a diamond dial and bezel. Kept it until I bought my DJ2. I don’t think I’ll be adding any diamonds to this watch. And if I bought a GMT, I’ll buy one sans ice.

I don’t think it will be more of a task. There will just be a period of adjustment before it becomes 2nd nature. When I got my first GMT watch there was a period of adjustment for me in reading the GMT hand because I was not used to reading time on a 24hr scale. But having owned a GMT watch for 4yrs now. No issues at all.

(Personally I would never own a blinged out GMT. I am more of a purist when it comes to my taste in watches.)

Yep and it does show Rolex has a sense of humor a’la the Rainbow and Leopard Daytona’s. The Tachymeter scale, though, is a bit harder to read by the color of the stones.
